    • It works, just wish it was sharp
One of the advertisements of this item is no sharp edges. But to me that is one of the downfalls, You want the wedge area to be sharp, with it being dull it makes the hammering force much more to split the log. I guess that can be fixed with an angle grinder, but that's not something I should need to do. So it loses a Star due to being Dull, but as for its build, the welds look to be done well, they are not messy, and I feel that it will do what I need it to do. ... show more

I've owned or used several different versions of these splitters now and this one has several advantages over others. 1. It comes as one piece of welded steel. Not only does this save time and frustration on assembly, it means that there are no loose joints or screws to come loose and get lost in the inevitable pile of wood chips that will surround this if it gets any real use. 2. The provided screws for mounting to a stump (highly recommended) are beefy and thick, providing a robust connection that will stand up to the repeated blows this thing will take. 3. No weird octagonal shaped mouth. Just a circular ring that maximizes the diameter of the log you can feed into it. 4. That they don't try to justify an elevated priced with useless accessories like cheap gloves. 5. The legs are thicker, making the whole thing more heavy duty. 6. As of this writing, the price is way more appropriate than what I've seen before. Most cost about twice this much, which is highway robbery when compared to the modest material costs. ... show more
