  • Surpassed previous budget controller in every way.
It's always a roll of the dice with budget controllers and I've had bad luck in the past. They fire right up straight out of the box seeming like it's good to go. But a few months later the drift starts, then there are connection problems, etc. But I'm happy to report, months later this controller still runs just as fine as it did out of the box. Very solid design and definitely worth the money. ... show more

  • Great alternative to an Xbox controller for PC
The Xbox Series X controller is great, but an additional wireless adapter (That doesn't work very well) still needs to be purchased separately, it doesn't have a rechargeable battery, and with batteries it becomes heavier than it should be. It's still a great controller if you use it wired, but I don't want to use it wired. The Sratus Duo essentially provides a solution to every problem I have with the Xbox controller. It's comfortable to hold and the buttons feel great. I beat Elden Ring with this thing. ... show more

  • Great for gaming, but...
...poorly made analog sticks. *this review was done after almost a year of gaming during the pandemic, up until about two months ago* This is the second Stratus Duo that I've had in a few months. The first one I bought started having a drifting problem with the left analog stick and a squeaky right analog stick, which made most FPS unplayable. Customer support was very prompt and helpful, refunded my purchase and offered to send a new one, even though I'd already ordered a new one ahead of time, which basically was the same as getting one sent for free. The second controller was a whole lot better. This one lasted me about a year of playing games until two months ago, when the right analog stick "L3" and "R3" clicky buttons stopped registering. These particular buttons are usually default key mapped to something vital like sprinting. Short of remapping a new button, this made most of the games I play, unplayable. I'm know I'm well out of the return window, and have thoroughly enjoyed using the Stratus Duo for the time that it's been usable, but for now I've gone back to using a wired controller on my PC. Now, the Pros: - The build quality is excellent (except for the analog sticks). This controller definitely has some heft to it. Not as heavy as a Xbox controller, but also not as light as a PS3/4 controller. It's super comfortable in your hands for several hours at a time. I have smaller hands, and 4-6 hours of button mashing produced not a single hand cramp, unless I was spamming a trigger bumper spraying and praying. Yes, I know, kb/mouse have the advantage over controllers in shooter games, but that's not the point of this review now, is it? Material for the hand grips is soft and textured, and icky hand sweat doesn't occur. - Connecting this controller is super easy, on both Windows PC via USB adapter, and my Nvidia Shield TV via Bluetooth. I just plugged the little USB adapter in, and *poof*, like magic, instantly connected. On rare occasions would I have to press the "connect" button on the controller for Windows 10 to recognize the controller and connect. - Charging takes no time at all with a fast charging brick. - Customer Support (through Amazon) is awesome, super helpful, and for the most part, fairly quick with their replies. I can't complain. :) Unfortunately, the Cons: - Analog L3/R3 clicky buttons started drifting, squeaking out of the box, or just stopped working. Short of remapping, this made my gaming sessions terrible. Maybe I'm an aggressive button masher, maybe I just like sprinting all over a map, all the time, like a marathon running with no "off" switch. Or, maybe I just got a bad batch of controllers. Either way, two controllers in a row with faulty analog sticks just kind of made me shelve this wonderful product and go back to an old wired controller. I would've given more stars because I really do like the Stratus Duo controller. Games that don't use the L3/R3 clicky buttons still work wonderfully, however, I don't like the idea of having separate controllers for different games. Is this the controller for you? If you want a dual connection controller that's super comfortable to hold, then this is a worthy competitor in the controller market. Would I recommend this? Definitely. Will I purchase another one in the future? Most positively possibly maybe yes. Maybe. - ... show more

  • Fatal Windows 10 flaw and worthless customer support
I really wanted to like this gamepad. The option to switch between 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth connections meant it could serve double duty with my PC and upcoming RetroPie, and I had recently purchased a SteelSeries Arctis 7 headset which I've been very happy with. Right off the bat I had an issue with the gamepad getting assigned to player 2 even though it was the only gamepad present; I resolved it by rebooting with the gamepad connected, and it was then assigned to player 1. Not a big deal at all...until... Every few minutes the gamepad spontaneously disconnected and then reconnected to Windows 10. Whenever this happened the gamepad would revert to player 2, requiring a reboot to get back to player 1 status. (FYI, having the gamepad assigned to player 2 fouls up the control mappings in a lot of games, and in some games it won't work at all.) I did what troubleshooting I could, and found out that the issue was with the wireless adapter itself, as it disconnected/reconnected even with the gamepad powered off. I contacted SteelSeries customer support and asked about the disconnection issue. I received a prompt response stating that it was a common issue with Windows 10, and therefore they didn't have a solution. Let me repeat that: it's a common issue with Windows 10, and because it's a common issue they don't have a fix. The logic of that statement throttles the intellect, as common issues tend to get fixed. I was basically told that it has a huge flaw when used with Windows 10, so suck it up and enjoy! Considering I had 1) a hugely flawed product, 2) a borderline insulting customer service response, and 3) a liberal return policy from Amazon I decided not to suck it up and enjoy. I returned the Stratus Duo, and on top of the refund i plunked down another $30+ for a Microsoft wireless Xbox controller for PC. Obviously, given my experience I can't recommend this product to anyone. I did get some gaming in with it though, and here are my thoughts, connectivity flaw and garbage customer service notwithstanding: PROS: Feels great in the hand--good balance, weight, texture Excellent D-pad and analog sticks--very responsive and comfortable Feels very solid and well made, not cheap at all Good looking: matte black with glossy black accents, classy and understated CONS: Button area is slightly recessed, causing my thumb to get lost occasionally Select and start buttons are sharply recessed and an obnoxious PIA to press Triggers have a much shorter travel path than on most gamepads No place to store wireless adapter on gamepad (come on--it's tiny!) No rumble feedback Despite the cons listed above, were it not for the disconnection issue I would've kept this gamepad. In fact, I'd like to be holding it right now. It made a generally good impression when I used it, and in time I probably would've gotten used to the slightly recessed buttons (though I'd probably curse those select and start buttons forever). To paraphrase A Fish Called Wanda, "You have a lovely gamepad...when it works." I don't know about you, but I'm not willing to pay for a "when it works" gamepad. The product drove me to SteelSeries' customer service department, and their customer service response drove me directly to their higher priced competitor. Amazon's return policy means not having to tolerate bad customer service. Someone might want to mention that to the good folks at SteelSeries. ... show more

  • Great at First!
I've bought about three of these controllers before. And they all start out great! Fantastic, responsive, accurate, good connection and battery. But after a time months to a year, they end up just not working properly or something breaks. On my first controller the right trigger locked up and then became loose. On the second the L3 button no longer responds to actions in game 80% of the time. If the controllers were more reliable longterm. This would be the perfect controller for me. ... show more

  • Really good product
I like the wait adjustability and performance. The button response the size of the control. The charging speed could be a little faster.
