  • Motocamping necessity

  • A nice cookset with a couple of issues
Style: Combo
There is a lot to like about the Soto Thermostack cook set. It is lightweight and compact. The 35o ml cup nests nicely within the 400 ml cup which makes a nice double-walled cup for sipping your coffee or tea in the morning. The pot lifter is absolutely superb in that it is very compact. I had hoped to use the pot lifter with my Trangia 27 cook set, but unfortunately, the shape of the part that grips the pot isn't compatible with the shape of the Trangia Pots. * The lids are made from a plastic material and shouldn't be used while pots are on the stove. I made the mistake of doing that and promptly deformed the smaller lid. * Pots are narrow and relatively tall for their width. This makes them slightly less stable than other pots of a similar size. Also, if you are actually cooking something, you have to do a lot of stirring so that things on the bottom don't burn. * The instructions say you have to keep the flame smaller than the circumference of the pots. I thought that the purpose of that instruction was to avoid melting the lids, but apparently not. * For reasons not obvious to me, it says the cook set should not be used with a liquid-fueled stove. I assume they mean not to be used with an alcohol stove. I think that might be because of the plastic lids, but I am not sure. In short, I think this is an excellent cook set for boiling water to rehydrate a meal, fix a cuppa, make instant oatmeal, etc. But for anything else, you probably better off with something like a TOAKs or Evernew Pot that is a bit wider and a bit more stable. Lastly, I ordered some additional pot lifters from Soto's online store. I think they have excellent customer service. ... show more

  • Very Flexible Kit
Style: Combo
I saw this kit on a video. I liked the idea and bought one. You have a larger pot that holds two smaller cups that make an insulated cup with lid. One of my main problems was finding a decent coffee cup that was small enough to fit in my kits that I can drink hot coffee from without burning my hands. With this kit you get a fairly large pot to boil water. The other two nestle together and makes a semi-insulated cup and the lid helps from burning your lips. However, this combined cup can get very warm. So I took a give-away can cozy made of thin neoprene and cut it to fit the small cup. When mated with the 350 ml cup, the cozy does allow it to still fit in the 400 ml pot. I had another neoprene cozy that was thicker. I cut it to fit the 400 ml pot and it will still fit into the 750 ml pot. But now, the smaller cups donโ€™t rattle. Now the lids that come with the kit are adequate, but, now with the cups insulated, most of the heat will dissipate through the thin lid. I ordered a Klean Kanteen Tumbler lid. It fits both the 350 and 400 ml cups, but is much thicker than the original lids. Now, I think I have the perfect kit. I have an heavy insulated cup or two insulated cups; plus, all the cozies can be removed for other cooking tasks. ... show more

  • Three Cups in One!
Style: Combo
The Soto Thermostack is another great piece of gear from Soto. The outer cup is perfect for boiling water for dehydrated meals, and the inner cup is perfect for holding a hot cup of coffee in the morning. Highly recommend!

  • Thermostack Cook Set Combo
Style: Combo
Fanatastic, high quality, Japanese made, 8 piece cookset, total weight 6.4 oz (manufacturer specs.) The set includes a 2 piece double wall thermal cup that can be disassembled to use the components separately if desired. There are many options with this well thought out cook set and some of the components can be left home to further lighten weight. It might seem expensive but it includes 2 titanium pots and 1 small stainless steel mug and is cheeper than the similarly sized Vargo Bot and much more versatile. I am very impressed with Soto products in general as I also have the Soto Windmaster Stove and the Soto Helix coffee maker which I use in conjunction with this cook set. Unfortunately the Soto Helix does not fit in the Thermostack kit, but is easy to stow elsewhere as it can be compressed almost flat. A small fuel canister will fit in the larger pot without the rest of the kit, but fuel canisters are easy to stow elsewhere anyway. The instructions say not to use the lids (there are 2) when boiling water, although I have done it successfully, but make sure the stove is not full blast and the flames don't go up the side of the pot. This is a marvelous kit for backpackers either using the full kit or the partial kit to save weight. BTW, the thermal cup does work well and keeps coffee warm for a long time! ... show more

Big pot fits 100g canister, soto windmaster (horizontally), pot holder and lighter with room to spare. Smallest pot/cup just big enough to hold soto windmaster (vertical), pot holder, and lighter. Large pot fits toaks 750 lid nicely as another review suggested to deal with melty lid issue. Large pot has 200, 300, and 500 ml measurement lines. Smallest pot has 100, 200, and 250 ml measurement lines. ... show more

  • Perfect size for canister stoves
Style: Combo
I've used with the Soto Windmaster stove and smaller 3-way lightweight pot support. Perfect for the Thermostack kit! Stove and pot support and pot lifter handle all nest inside smallest cup, making for a very compact setup which protects the stove. Quality is excellent. Combination of hard anodized aluminum (larger pot), titanium (medium/outer wall pot) and stainless (smaller/inner pot) works well and offers the possibility of using a subset of the kit if needed for even lighter weight. Very well thought-out. ... show more
