  • Passed the first test with flying colors
Color: Green
They passed the first test with flying colors. I left one on my southern exposure window sill for a couple of sunny days, so I presume it was fully charged. Then I left it on with the solar panel covered. After five hours it was still bright. After eight hours it was pretty dim but still put out enough light to help you find your way around a dark house during a black out, Enough to keep you from running into things or tripping over them, to read a medicine bottle label or find the fuse box and change a fuse -- though maybe not enough to tell which fuse was burned out., I charged it up again and put it in a box in a drawer to check again in a month so see well it holds its charge. I expect it well do well. ONE MONTH LATER. Took it out of the drawer and compared it with the other one which was fully charged. I couldn't really tell any difference. ... show more

  • Can't use crank for more than 15 minutes and take 40 hours of direct sunlight to charge.
Color: Green
Can't use crank for more than 15 minutes and take 40 hours of direct sunlight to charge. Direct text from the owners manual. CHARGE WITH THE HAND CRANK Rotate the hand crank at 2 rounds per second to charge the battery. One minute's crank will generate power for 8 minute's lighting. Note: To protect long-term performance of the battery, DO NOT ROTATE THE CRANK FOR MORE THAN 15 MINUTES. CHARGE WITH THE SOLAR PANEL The solar panel can be charged both under natural and artificial light. Charge under direct sunlight for 30 minutes will generate power for 10 minutes lighting. 40 HOURS OF DIRECT SUNLIGHT WILL FULL CHARGE THE BATTERY. ... show more

  • Totally excellent and I recommend these
Color: Green
Totally excellent and I recommend these. These produce an amazingly more bright light than one would logically believe. The L. E. D. light produced lasts a long time and with only a short 10 cranking of handle. These are not as durable as they appear and need to be handled carefully. I dropped one on the street surface and it separated into pieces. I snapped the parts right back together again and it still works great. The round hole at the end is a spring loaded clip that opens and attaches it to hang from belt, bag, cord or rope and holds it conveniently and safely. I've used these everyday for about a year on my bicycle riding to work and they are a terrific deal for the money. Never be tied to batteries again! I used these everyday for 6 months successfully, but after 6 months I begin to notice that the battery does not hold a charge as well and the light is not as bright. So, at this low price I ordered another 2 of them and consider it still a bargain! Later note 2 1/2 years later - I have used these lights several days each week for 2 1/2 years and they are still fabulous and reliable - they still work great! ... show more

  • Very handy, capable flashlights - highly recommended.
Color: Green
These are wonderful, useful flashlights. I never need to worry about batteries with this. The solar charging feature works great. Just leave it in the sun and by the time the sun sets your flashlight will be ready to go. Furthermore, the manual charging works well. Just crank the handle for 15-30 seconds and you will get enough of a charge to last several minutes. More than a great value for the money. While these are more expensive than other similar (identically looking flashlights) here on Amazon.com, I still think that these are a good value for the money. I would still purchase these again in hindsight. Very satisfied and happy with these. Also, I am writing this review 1 year after purchasing two of these and both of them still work without issue and have taken their fair amount of abuse as well. ... show more

  • If you have no way to get batteries...
Color: Black
We buy these every year to go in our Operation Christmas Child Christmas boxes. These gifts go to areas where children may not be able to get batteries. These flashlights can be charged with solar power or by hand winding (which my 4 and 7 year olds could do). They seem tough. Highly recommended.

  • Well made and bright light!
Color: Green
These are GREAT, high quality flashlights. Bought for my Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child box and was DELIGHTED with the high quality, durable appearing, bright flash light. You never know where your shoebox will end up so I always try to find things that do not require batteries. These little lights put out a very nice high beam with minimal cranking. Also set in the light to charge the solar battery and it grabbed the charge right away and seemed to hold it. Did not experiment with how long it operates between recharges. I think I am going use the second one for my car or save for next years shoebox gift. Great product! ... show more

  • Very, Very Impressive Flashlight
Color: Green
First off, I must say how impressed I am with the flashlight. It is not only well made but very compact and the brightness of the lamps are quite nice. I had read prior reviews and the majority were great. There were less than a handful that were not so great. But I decided to give it a try and am so happy I did. Another thing I was impressed with was the hand crank. Long ago I had a hand crank flashlight and it wasn't the easiest thing to wind as it seemed to be off balance. This Simpeak is so incredibly easy to crank and not off balance at all...thank you, Simpeak. And the color is not the dull olive green in the pictures. It is a vibrant, deep olive green, which makes the flashlight look that much more expensive. Last, I didn't realize there were 2 in the pack...yeah, I should've read the listing more carefully. I ordered 2 and now have 4 flashlights, which I am very happy about. These will make 2 of my friends very happy when they receive as a gift. ... show more

  • Small and lightweight
Color: Green
I got these yesterday for camping and my bug out bag. The crank makes more noise than I would like but unless I'm needing to be quite it's not a problem. Lights are nice and bright, easy to use, and a good camo color. Haven't tried the solar yet since it's been raining but says it can charge by any light source. I like that it an clip on the outside of a pack to charge by the sun but not 5 seconds after I handed my boyfriend his he broke the clip. It was and easy fix, the pin came out and had to figure out how to get the clip back on the spring but works fine now. Overall, I'm happy with them and think they will serve us well. Just don't forget to follow the directions and crank once a month the keep battery to max usability. Full charge by solar in 40 hours, cranking depends on how fast you crank but don't go past 15 minutes per instructions. Gives 2 hours of light. ... show more
