  • Buy this scooter
Okay, we all agree the price is high for an electric scooter but let me tell you my experience. Two months ago I purchased a GoTrax scooter. After two weeks the brake started to fail, it had only one rear brake and after two months I almost had an accident because I couldn't stop at a traffic light on time. I called Amazon complained immediately and got a refund after returning it. I decided to buy my second scooter based on quality. The Shell Ride is a good scooter and you can tell. You pay for the quality, yes, you do. But you also pay for safety. The Shell Ride has a front and rear brake, the front brake can be a matter of saving you in emergency braking. I tested it yesterday and it really breaks. The App works well, no sync issues, and the handles are super comfy. The previous model I owned from GoTrax was awful in terms of handle comfort and false battery life statements. Do not hesitate, not only this is a good scooter, but it is safe. Having two breaks is really (REALLY) important. These scooters go fast and you could easily injure yourself with cheap not well-made scooters. I wish I saw this scooter before buying the inferior quality. it would have saved me time, money, and effort to return the old one. Go for it, invest a little bit more, and hopefully, you will ride happily. DO NOT forget the helmet, again BE SAFE if you end up on the road at high speed you can really injure yourself, use the HELMET. ... show more

  • Quality, Quality, Quality - This is a well built machine that is loads of fun!
As stated the quality of this scooter is so nice, a heavy duty build out is the very first thing I noticed. I read reviews of other scooters having issues with their breaking (single break models) this model has a front and back break so I feel much more safe and both brake systems are working great. Love that this is a scooter backed by a company like Shell, many competitors I am unfamiliar with the brand so I went with this known brand and so far im very glad I did. The manual did a good job of getting me setup quickly, all I had to do was put in 4 screws for the handlebars and plug in the cable so the digital display was ready. I did notice one small storage technique that I had to learn to get the steering column back down, you have to push forward against the column with your foot on the platform to get the column release to work. I tried multiple times to force the column back but this is so sturdy there was no way it would budge, thus the sight push forward gets it to release in a snap. The overall performance was great, both my kids 11 and 12 were able to jump right on and ride with no issues at all at the three speed levels. The small touches like the front light LED and tail light were easy to use as were the grippy handlebars. We are getting ready to travel and im so excited to toss this in the van and check out the sights on this puppy! ... show more

  • PLEASE DONT PURCHSE THIS ITEM!!!!
This product is terrible. - It doesnt get close to 20 MPH, including going down hill on paved street. - The fastest its gone is 17 MPH - The battery lasts about 25-35 minutes give or take. - The charger it comes with exploded when plugged when i plugged in to the train, which shorted out the scooter and i had to have it replaced within 2 months of original purchase. - The back tire cover broke off the new one in the first 2 weeks and now riding it over a puddle soaks my leg PLEASE DONT PURCHASE THIS ITEM!! ... show more

  • The heavy duty scooter you need!!!
Simply put - this is the scooter you need! I commute on the worst roads in NYC everyday and this scooter can handle it!! The speed, cruise control, build design and quality are simply top notch. Everything works as promised. The only downside is the ride is a little bumpy because no shocks, but I'm okay with that. I've had 3 Segway ES2's and they all broke. Pure trash. This scooter is legit however. I strongly recommend it. I was lucky to find it and now I will not use another scooter. Also, the dual braking is a must!! In case the electric brake fails, you need a back up. Avoid GoTrax for that reason!! ... show more

  • Easy and fun ride!
Okay. I’ve this for a month or two and I’m really enjoying the scooter. I bought it because I suffered an injury and needed to run my high-energy dog. With a little training, the dog is good to go, running along side me while I ride the scooter. The performance of the Shell scooter is excellent. It’s really easy to control, the brakes are great and the lights are a really nice touch, especially the fact that the designers engineered the rear brake light to activate when the brakes are applied. With a little practice, one can get away with one handed operation for a couple of feet, if really needed. Controls are very easy to learn and use and offer a great deal of subtlety. As for range, max is supposed to 18 miles but I doubt that would be for the mid range or performance modes. I’ve burned about half of the battery on doggy runs with a distance of about 3.5 miles. I only have 2 complaints: 1. I think the engineers could have found a wait conceal the wires inside the frame. I would have paid a little extra for that. 2. A noise developed from the rear wheel after 25 miles. I can’t tell if it’s bearings already having problems or just some kind of normal ticking. It only happens when I’m leaning very slightly more rearward. Based on reviews of the price point competition, I believe this to be a really good value. It’s fun, easy to learn to ride safely, has great safety features and it has pretty good performance. Plus, it’s not obnoxiously heavy! ... show more

  • Misleading Advertisement on Amazon
I bought this scooter largely because it was rated as capable of traveling at 20 MPH - a rare spec for scooters of any price. The scooter arrived with the manufacturer's specifications that state the scooter's maximum speed is actually 15.5 mph. That's a big disparity. The manual stated the maximum range is 18 miles. Amazon page says up to 20 miles. These details matter. The fact is that after a full charge the scooter traveled just 5.3 miles and was down to one bar on remaining power. The tree stars are for build and design, integrated headlamp, and brake lights. ... show more
