  • Senran At its Best
Style: Peach Beach Splash
This addition to the Senran Kagura games is amazing. It introduces a completely new type of gameplay completely different to the series: third-person shooting. All of the shinobi girls battle one another and minion-style enemies using an arsenal of soaking-wet inducing, colorful and vibrant water-splashing weapons. PEACH BEACH SPLASH has a very entertaining value to it in its shooter gameplay, whether offline or online in a ranked match or survival. Throughout the game, as you do missions or play online, you can obtain cards at random. These cards are used for your pet slots (additional entities that grant you an extra weapon, effect, or affinity), skills slots (pretty much like the pet's effects but extended and more of an instant effect), and weapon. Duplicates of these cards can stack to be used as experience to upgrading existing cards of Shinobi Girls (raising the time/power of effects or health of the shinobi). There's a huge variety of cards to collect in the game, and the collection process is a nifty little feature that also keeps me hooked. The way you mix and match your cards and level them up will help you gain an advantage on the offline and online battlefields, so keep grinding! Actual battle is great. Who doesn't enjoy running around as scantily-clad anime girls soaking each other with water? The game, believe it or not, actually incorporates a strategical element into it. Every weapon has two types of firing modes (which changes per weapon), one mode usually consuming more "water" (ammo for everything you do) then the other, etc. These different modes can help players adapt to specific situations in which they cause for it, but it's always a take away as you also need water to quickly jump/fly around the map or dash to downed teammates or cover. Reloading times and speeds vary per weapon (typically, heavier damage = slower reload), which brings us back to how specific card usage can help! If the battle system had any problems, I would say that (typical of a senran game) there is possibility to be overpowered/abused. Leveling up your shinobi/gun/card more and more will give you major advantages over those who haven't been able to level up much, which can be a problem in the online free for all/search match types. I also feel that some of the weapons on the game are pretty much useless when compared to others (e.g Double pistols, spray gun) but mostly in single-player modes. Players can also instantly switch between auto aim or manual on any weapons in the heat of battle, but manual aim is pretty much useful only for trying to get your own team wet and give them the unlimited water boost. Heading towards story and content, well while it was enjoyable and took me a few days to overcome, it's much shorter when compared to other senran games. It felt like the story didn't have much thought into it at all, but as a sorta-cannon not completely-cannon game (I'm assuming it sort of is) game, I guess that doesn't matter too much. All in all, there's a total of 51 episodes (or "missions") in the story mode, several "paradise episodes" (each span 5 missions of their own), and the 4 tournament cups with 5 battles each. All of these can be played on 1, 2, and 3 star difficulties, meaning there is replay value but if you want enjoyment of story with it, you might not get that. Content is still great. With all of the HD, toned and detailed anime graphics, we see the return of all the old breakable outfits and bikinis from past senran games, with the introduction of some new outfits and re-imagined outfits that have "transparency." In my opinion, these are the best outfits for the obvious reasons, but I can't seem to understand why the developers decided to make about 20 or less of these outfits. I personally believe the game should have put a focus on bikinis and see-thru outfits, even if it meant leaving out the shinobi costumes that rip. Overall, this is a beautifully designed, cheerful, bubbly game that works well in the Senran series. We get all of our favorite girls fighting in a more risque situation, with great "squirmy" finishers and outfits, tons of missions to play offline, and a fun multiplayer system that works better than past titles. I'd set it at about a 4.8 stars, but rounded up. It definitely hits high of the moist meter! If you like shooters, developed anime girls, or both, than pick up this game. ... show more

  • Nice, mature alternative to Splatoon 2
Style: Peach Beach Splash
This game is incredible, however I am going to say right off the bat that this game is not for everyone. The reason why I love this game is because I am an established fan, and Marvelous has done a great job of making an existing fan very happy. The game plays very similarly to Splatoon 2, and since my interest in that game has waned in the last few weeks, this is a great alternative to get me back into some pretty fun multiplayer matches. I just came off of playing several hours with my friends, and I think I speak for everyone when I say that we had a great time. My only complaint is that it was kind of a labyrinth to reach the excitement I experienced with my friends. As far as I can tell, you can't take your friends online to do the 3v3 of 5v5 modes. We were only able to do the mode where you survive wave after wave of enemies (this mode reminded me a lot of Plants vs Zombies or even CoD Zombies to a certain extent). Once you are playing, it is a wonderful time. I tried the story mode out and I enjoyed that as well. I actually heard a complaint about the story mode, and the first thing I thought was, seriously? It's not like we're talking about Metal Gear Solid level of storytelling here, it is a simple lighthearted game that is meant to be entertaining. If you are a fan already, definitely pick this up. Newcomers, I would recommend research, see if you dig it! ... show more

  • It would be easy to simply write this game off as all style ...
Style: Peach Beach Splash
It would be easy to simply write this game off as all style and no substance but as with previous installments in this series it rides that fine line between the two and a really fun game is the result. The card system the game uses for weapons and summons is interesting as the more of multiples of the same card you get you can use those to power up cards for weapons you may find yourself using a lot like for instance I had gotten use to laying down the law with a gattling gun so that was the first card I started to power up and etc. The story mode is surprisingly good for the single player experience as is the tournament mode for those who either don't care for multiplayer or need a break from it, so far during my time I've noticed not a lot of people are playing this online so I've had to wait a bit before finding players if I haven't given up and moved on. The few times I've played against others it has been a ok experience as the range of players go from "first time to the series" to usual multiplayer shenanigans. The extras for this collector's edition are good for the price you pay for as you get a blu ray that has the intro to all of the previously released games in the series, a soundtrack and a mini art book where mileage may vary on images in that book that should have been the cover to the US games or that "I Seriously Can't Have That As Box Art". Fun game to have no matter which edition you purchase ... show more

  • 10/10 will recommend! You won’t regret!
Style: Peach Beach Splash
As a Senran Kagura series fan, this game is one of my favorites. In game music is entertaining and never gets boring: it catches you. This is definitely a unique game. It’s targeted for entertainment and not for competitive play. The graphics are AMAZING. There is an online multiplayer feature, but the community is pretty dead because it’s a 17+ game, where there aren’t that many players to begin with. However, don’t let this stop you from purchasing the game! It’s fun in single player, and there are A LOT of discord servers that are specifically targeted for Senran Kagura fans and you’ll be able to find people who can play online with you. ... show more
