Style: L-308S-U Flashmate

Description

The L-308S-U delivers accurate exposure readings in full, half, or third-stop increments to mirror the exposure displays of most popular cameras. When set to full-stop mode, exposures are displayed in tenth-stop increments with a repeat accuracy of +/- 0.1 EV. Reflected readings capture at a light receiving angle of about 40-degrees, or slightly wider than the viewing field of a normal lens. For incident readings, a small, built-in Lumisphere slides over the silicon diode sensor. For flat-field incident readings, a Luminism (included) snaps over the sensor for metering flat artwork or measuring contrast and/or exposure ratios within a scene. Electronic flash exposures can be taken with or without a PC cord. Exposure data is displayed on the LCD screen, which has been redesigned to emulate the look and feel of the LCD on the 'bigger-brother' Sekonic L-358 flash meter. Exposure data and related information is displayed using large type and easy-to-read icons. At ISO 100 ambient light can be read over an EV range of 0 to 19.9 in both incident and reflected mode. Flash exposures are displayed from f/1.4 to f/90.9 (or about f/124). ISO sensitivity is set from 3 to 8000 in third-stop increments. For cinema applications, the L-308S can be programmed to display exposure times from 8 to 128 frames-per-second. The Sekonic L-308S FLASHMATE comes with a Luminism (with pouch), a soft case, strap, synchro terminal cap and a AA battery.

  • Small, accurate, and easy to use, Buy this meter and you won't be disappointed.
Small, accurate, and easy to use. Tested this with both on-camera as well as off-camera flash, results were excellent, repeatable, and, therefore reliable. Tested the reflective light metering and itmatches my camera's on-board metering exactly. A word on the output from this meter: If you select the output option to f-stops, display will be whole f-number plus tenths of a stop. This means that if your meter shows f=16.8, your exposure setting should be f=16 + 8-tenths of a stop, which is actually closer to f:22 than f:16. You will need to keep this in mind as only whole f-stops are shown: eg, f:2.8, f:4, f:5.6, f:8, f:11, and so on. Optionally, you can set exposure value to read EV numbers directly, and make the conversions yourself. Pros: Small form factor Runs on a single AA battery Auto shut-off Meters flash, incident and reflective light Tests out well, with reliable, predictable results Cons: None so far. ... show more

Works great - maybe should read the instructions - works in sync variable of shutter and aperture or independent - 125 and ISO 100 then just hold the main button- then fire to meter an incident point - working with lighting aspect ratios and light to camera aspect ratios as well - makes it easier - if doing high key look at the shot after on the PC as the viewfinder isn't what is - Measure your own and little to no adjustments to exposure or contrasts needed- ... show more

  • Handy meter that is sensitive and accurate
Easy to use light and flash meter. Works well indoors but I had trouble using it outside with a set of GN-58 rated speed lights with white umbrellas during overcast conditions. The sun light was too bright to allow the wireless trigger mode to detect the flash at 1/4 power. I am a little disappointed in the outdoor performance which is why I gave it 4 stars. During a recent indoor shoot the meter detected a 1/3 stop light difference from one flash in a two light 1:1 set up with both lights set at the exact same distance from the subject. Turned out that the zoom setting on the offending flash was set differently. The meter allowed me to detect and correct this discrepancy during my initial setup with out having to shoot any test shots. The meter also reports an accurate f-stop measurement, I get a well exposed shot when using the metered values. ... show more

  • Excellant meter
Sekonic meters are always top notch. This is a great starter meter and I've recommended it to all of my students for their studio classes. Very simple to use and has always been very accurate. Plus they are well made and very durable.

  • Glad I got it, good quality, and is a nice addition to the photo toolkit
Well designed, easy to use - even when I don't use it for a while, can get it to do what I want without going to the manual. Should have gotten one a long time ago.

A basic ambient/flash meter but seems expensive for what you are getting. I will be returning it. Now with digital a handheld meter seems to be not needed.

  • Need that perfect ratio? Want to know how shifting a light will change your photo? No problem with the L-308S-U.
The Sekonic L-308S-U quickly becomes an indispensable item in the camera bag. It takes the guesswork out of using off-camera flash, lets you know exactly how you're doing on setting up constant lighting for your subject, and also assists in gauging various light configurations, bulb output, and filter impact. Take a baseline reading, jot down your numbers, then make a change and see how it impacts your final result, quickly and easily before ever having to snap a shot. It may not have some of the nifty features of the more expensive cousins in the Sekonic lineup, but it's like a basic hammer; it just works, and it's simple to operate. ... show more
