Works pretty well. I wish the weight was a little heavier so it will slide down the length of the sax better. No cleaning instructions, but I'm washing by hand due to the strings.

    • Ease to use and care for
My daughter uses this to clean her alto saxophone. The tie on the cloth is slightly weighted making it easy to thread through the instrument. The cloth is nicely sized to pull on through, and it does collect the moisture. It's also no problem to toss into the washer and clean.

I've owned saxophones since 1970, and cleaned them a LOT of times. This cleaning tool had some drawbacks. 1. The draw strap is too short. 2. The weight is too light. Drop it into the bell, turn the sax upside down, and the weight often doesn't make it down the to the neck receiver, meaning you've got to try getting the weight & strap down the body of the horn multiple times. It's frustrating. Sometimes the weight (which is covered in fabric strap material) catches in a tone hole. Or if the horn is particularly wet inside, the strap sticks to the inside of the horn, meaning the weight is too light to do the job. 3. The wide section is too wide to clean inside a saxophone neck. I got it stuck in the neck. When I tried to pull it back out the other way, it bunched up & jammed. It took me 30 minutes of carefully picking & pulling & pushing with tools. Ultimately I ended up carefully and slowly operating a drill to use the bit for cutting up the jammed fabric--it was tight & hard as a rock. This cleaning swab may work for an alto, but it isn't as good as other swabs that have heavier/larger weights. Over all I give it a 1 out of 5, mostly for the weight not getting the strap quickly & easily through the sax. ... show more
