  • My first real smart phone
I'm behind the times. I just got my first nice smart phone and am enjoying it. I never had the money for one before, so I have nothing to compare this with... but I decided since I now had the money to buy a nice phone, I'd get something really, really nice - and after a lot of research into iPhones and Samsung phones, I chose this beautiful Samsung Note9 and I'm very pleased with my choice. I've had no problems with it. This phone is so fast! Also, I bought a lot of memory... 512GB, which is expandable with a memory card. I got the extra memory because I'm going to be making YouTube videos with this after I start traveling... or maybe before. As soon as I can figure out how to do it. I saw a few YouTube reviews of this phone and two featured broken phones... I mean, the glass broke when they dropped it or banged it against something. So I decided from the beginning to get a good quality protective case with a screen protector, and I haven't had any trouble with breakage. It may help that I haven't dropped it or anything like that. I did accidentally bang it on the edge of my table, but it didn't break. I'm grateful because I spent a lot of money on this phone. I don't know why this phone costs so much. I thought it was excessive. I am still perplexed, even though it is an awesome phone. It cost more than my laptop computer! How can this be right? Please leave me a comment if you know why the phone is more expensive than a laptop computer. Nevertheless, I don't resent the expenditure. The phone has a large screen and works very fast. Flawlessly, so far. I initially took this phone to my local Verizon store to get it connected, but the man working there wasn't happy. He asked, rather gruffly, "Where did you get that phone?" I told him I got it from Amazon! Then he said, "We can't connect that, we've done it before, and it just doesn't work right. We don't have any SIM cards for it." I was shocked that he would not help me connect with Verizon! So I left. I phoned my daughter and told her about that, and she said she'd help me. She used to work at the Walmart cell phone sales area and knew a bit about cell phones. She took me to a different Verizon store near where she lives, and the young man there was very nice about connecting my phone to the network. He said his store is owned by the company, and the other Verizon stores are like franchises owned privately. So the store owner in Post Falls, Idaho wouldn't help me because he couldn't sell me a phone, but the company store hooked me up just fine, and of course, gave me a SIM card. Anyhow, I'm getting used to the cell phone. Really, I wish I could have had a good phone years ago, but better late than never. I will need it to stay in touch with relatives as I'll be traveling full-time in a few months. ... show more

  • What's not to love?
What's not to love about this device? My first stylus device and it's Devine. This is really a mini computer and has so many amazing features, takes nice HQ pics and video and has a very durable and responsive design. It's bigger and heavier than I am used to, but easy to adjust to with time. Android lovers, businesses and creators will enjoy this phone tremendously. ... show more

  • BUYERS BEWARE!!! This review is more for Amazon than the phone
I Bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 512gb unlocked as new, sold and shipped by Amazon, with free returns. I was super excited when I received this, as it was to be my last Note...sorry, Samsung, for $1400, I am not willing to compromise anywhere...especially the 3.5mm jack. Upon opening the box, I noticed the Phone packaging was held together with scotch tape. My uh-oh button immediately started blipping, but I offered benefit of the doubt, as it's an older model, and maybe the packaging had loosened up in warehouse transit. When I slid the sleeve away, I noticed 2 tiny air bubbles under the "factory" plastic shield...very uncharacteristic for the manufacturer, so I called Samsung directly. They requested the IMEI, and upon receiving it, they told me the phone was not under manufacturer warranty...not because it was a foreign make, but USED. I packaged it up immediately and had it back to UPS within a couple of hours. Accidents happen, but this is where Amazon really starts getting shady. I spent what I personally consider a good deal of money, and after receiving a used phone marketed as new, I became rather skeptical, so I took down the UPS tracking number and watched the progress myself. Amazon received the package Monday morning, November 2nd (I had shipped Friday afternoon). Again, giving benefit of doubt, I watched the progress on Amazon tracker. After a couple days, I opened chat to inquire why the tracker still said not received, and I was given a good runaround until I told them that I took a screenshot of the UPS delivery. After this reveal, they quickly assured me the phone had been received, but would be up to 7 days until my return was processed (my guess is collecting a fat chunk of interest off mine and many others' larger ticket items, as once the zeros are numerous enough, banks also up the interest percentage they're willing to pay out). My second chat session, which I had to have the representative email me a copy, as their chat immediately closes out upon ending (so no screenshots unless it's mid chat...which I did that a couple times, too..., all you fellow cynics), assured me that the Amazon tracking would be updated within 24 hours to show their receipt of the phone, and had me waiting until some undisclosed time this week for my return. Which I wouldn’t have minded, however, the phone still read as not received on the Amazon return tracking software. Once the new week hit, I waited until Monday night to offer a good 12 hours past the one week mark of the UPS receipt. I opened another chat (again taking periodic screenshots) and expressed my growing levels of irritation. I was offered a decent level of help, or so I thought, but when I asked for a copy of the chat via email, I was told they are not allowed to email me a copy of the chat, so somebody had been lying. This was funny to me, as I still have the previous official email from Amazon sitting in a folder and starred. I informed her that it was ok, as I was taking periodic screenshots, and she was magically, not only able to bypass the lack of receipt, but issue a return on the spot, which I waited in the chat to receive confirmation in my email inbox. At this point, I was super skeptical, so I never erased a single notification until the return actually posted to my bank account. Again, buyers beware...of Amazon. Also, Amazon won’t allow me to upload pictures or screenshots, so…there’s that, as well. I would have been more than happy to post all of my screenshots and emails as proof. Is it coincidence that I’ve never had a problem uploading photos before? This 1 star rating is strictly for the seller…Amazon. As far as the phone itself is concerned, I'd still really like to get my hands on a new Note 9 at a reasonable price from a trustworthy seller. And I love everything I've watched, read, and researched about this handset. It also is the last model (as previously stated) with the 3.5mm jack. I have no doubt I would’ve given this phone at least 4 stars, and I’m guessing it would have been 5. The handset looked sleek and refined, and I have owned Samsung hardware since the Note II. I was even willing to compromise to the lavender color (just not a fan...I prefer a nice, plain, black or grey), but with Samsung flooding the market with 30 variations of the few new models (exaggerated), and not dropping the price of the 9 so much as a penny, I've accepted that as a pipe dream. THINGS TO NOTE (no pun intended...I swear) WHEN CONSIDERING ANY UNLOCKED PHONE. Upon talking to Samsung, I was informed that they receive their unlocked units directly from the factory and offer original warranty through Samsung, NOT your carrier (also confirmed via T-Mobile conversation). If you buy from a retail store internally housing carriers *cough, cough, Best Buy, cough, Walmart, cough, etc.*, not that there is anything wrong with buying from one of these other stores, but if you buy from said entities or the like, even Samsung approved retailers, unlocking is by that 3rd party's own "trusted" associates (according to the Samsung rep), and will be backed (if at all) through that company's warranty, not by Samsung. If the origin of the phone does prevent US warranty, the phone may still be under warranty, it will just have to be shipped to the manufacturer in the country of origin, so be prepared to pay some international shipping or eat domestic repair costs. T-Mobile (no clue about others) treats any device not bought directly from a T-Mobile retailer (even a T-Mobile locked phone direct from Samsung) as BYOD (bring your own device). You will possibly receive a lesser coverage, higher payments and/or deductibles, or both through insurance (should you purchase) dependent upon the handset. T-Mobile support may be denied, except for their technical support (to an obvious extent, though I've, personally, always found the phone support to still be top notch), and maybe tossing some of the normal stock software on the device (unless you happen upon someone super nice who is willing to bend a few policies), and any unsolvable issues with the phone will go directly to the 3rd party seller claiming the warranty, or to the insurance that you may or may not have chosen to buy. I've also read in disclaimers and reviews that carrier specific video chat tends to fail or just be considered unavailable on unlocked devices (Android...I haven't spent much time with Apple), even if the carrier tries to directly place the software on the phone, so you may want to consider whether you could live with using 3rd party video chat apps before you buy unlocked...just in case. This is all based upon information I gathered during my time on chats and phone conversations with T-Mobile and Samsung and reading my personal insurance coverage agreements regarding phones purchased through Samsung and/or/vs. T-Mobile. I highly encourage you to do much research and call companies' customer service lines, as sometimes wording can be tricky, and live reps can help elaborate and/or clarify specific topics that may turn out to be deal breakers. I personally find technical research like this rather fun, albeit challenging, as some reps and self-assist programs are far more cooperative than others, and all are subject to some degree of error, so I hope these tidbits have offered at least a couple areas to think further, and maybe deeper points to consider in your own research and buying criteria. ... show more
