Vitamin C face creams and serums can help protect the skin from UV exposure and it may inhibit melanin, which causes brown spots. But some people are allergic to a specific ascorbic acid in these formulas. I had this problem. It was a build-up effect and occurred only after 3 consecutive evenings of a light application. The 3rd evening my face turned bright red and burned horribly – and I had a few raised areas. Washing the cream off with a gentle cleanser (Dove soap as recommended by my dermatologist) and using a moisturizer helped only a little with the burning. Don’t blame ‘bad cream’ on this reaction. It’s just something some of us can’t use. Once you have a bad reaction, understand your immune system will not ‘change it’s mind’. So, toss the product out. For those who are worried about such a thing happening, as with any product you apply to skin, use it sparingly for a couple weeks, maybe once every other night. Slight irritation upon application can be normal, but burning or severe redness, or hives means don’t continue use. ... show more

I love this moisturizer and have been using it for the past couple of years. It’s thicker for hydration and holds but doesn’t make your face feel heavy or clogged. It has a nice fragrance that’s not too strong. It also helps with my makeup applications because my skin is now soft and hydrated! I’m a licensed esthetician who was trained with Dermalogica.
