Description

Double Boiler & Dual PIDFor the first time, the Rancilio Silvia is equipped with two boilers; one to heat water for brewing coffee, and another for hot water and steam. Brew more drinks back-to-back without waiting between steaming and brewing, or froth milk while you pull a shot. Larger than previous models, the 1L steam boiler give you professional-grade steaming power to create barista-quality milk foam. Create all your favorites from lattes to cappuccinos to flat whites. The Silvia Pro gives you fine control over water temperature in both boilers via internal PID, offering precise temperature stability and simple adjustment. Pro FeaturesThe Silvia Pro has a completely redesigned interface for a cleaner user experience. Temperature regulation is easier than ever with the integrated digital display, which displays the brew temperature in real time. Also new to this machine is programmable shot timing. Water level alerts let you know when the water reservoir needs refilled. A programmable wake-up mode ensures your machine is hot and ready when you want it. For frame of reference, my preference is for a shot that tastes like high quality, old-school, dark chocolate--not the tangy stuff that seems to have become popular. My taste runs toward a blend of French and Italian roasts ground so fine that It takes about 2 minutes to pull a double shot. This Rancilio replaces my 25 year old machine. And, after a few weeks of using Miss Silvia, I like it a great deal. While I have yet to install a PID, which sounds (theoretically) like a really good idea, I get very good, repeatable results by weighing out the same amount of coffee each time on a relatively inexpensive scale, that yields very repeatable results (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B072TBYM2K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), grinding on a dedicated Mignon Notte (so that the grind doesn't change from shot to shot), banging the grounds around a bunch to even the distribution before tamping, and using a glass with markings to pull the shots. It will take a decade or so to see how well it lasts, but I really love the way the machine functions now. One gripe, it doesn't come with a big enough basket to hold 21 grams of coffee, so I bought the bottomless portafilter, which does. One nitpicking detail, the actual machine has this big, off-center red dot on the group head housing. I actually called Rancilio because it looks like none of the pictures that anybody shows of the machine. Aesthetically speaking, the dot is really ugly. And the fact that the portafilter handle doesn't stick out straight but at an angle, is also pretty ugly. Overall, I would give the machine 4.75/5 for now (because of the really bad aesthetic choices) and I would highly recommend it both because I enjoy using it, and because it is quite capable of making good coffee over and over again! ... show more

Family of 5 making1-2 shots each daily. Pays for itself in a month or two. We’ve had it for approximately 4 months and I’m getting rich during the Biden economic crisis. My latte has increased approximately 40% in cost over the last 2-3 years. We couldn’t afford for everyone to visit our local coffee shop 1-2x per day so we bought this basic machine. I can make a better drink with much more consistent flavor after purchasing this machine. You need to adjust the settings with different beans and grinds, otherwise you might be disappointed. The best pro-sumer machine on the market, in my opinion. If you love espresso and making your own espresso drinks the Sylvia Pro represents the best value for a pro-sumer machine. It has 2 boilers, one for espresso and one for steam, so there's no waiting for a single boiler to heat up or cool down. Plus, you can make plain espressos and leave the steam boiler turned off if you want. It's a very well-built, heavy-duty machine for serious coffee lovers. If you're a Keurig-type person you'll hate it because it requires some (limited) skill to operate. You can individually set the brewing and steaming temperatures to your preference. It also features pre-infusion - you can set it to pre-wet the coffee for 1 to 6 seconds before the pump kicks in. You'll also need a high-quality burr grinder to go with the Sylvia Pro to take advantage of its superior quality. In order to pull great shots you need a very consistent grind. Previously I had a Gaggia Pro single boiler machine, and it made perfectly acceptable espresso, but you had to either pull the shot first and then wait for the boiler to heat up to steam OR steam the milk first and then purge the boiler to cool it down to pull the espresso shot. The steaming wand on the Sylvia Pro has 4 openings so it steams the milk much faster than the Gaggia Pro, more like a commercial unit. ... show more

I have always been partial to the Rancillo brand. I used to own an espresso stand almost a decade ago and had a nice commercial 2 group head machine and it made great espresso. So for my home machine and have been looking for awhile now. I went with this dual broiler and absolutely love it. It may not have all the bells and whistle’s of other machines but it has everything I need and makes wonderful espresso. I really have enjoyed using it so far even though only have had it for about 2 weeks I’m still very pleased and can see that it’s going to be alittle work horse just like the one in my stand. I did a lot of research before buying this, watched a lot of videos and still found myself wanting this machine and again Rancillo has been around for years, you can’t go wrong with this machine. I may even do a video soon and show how beautiful the shots come out. If you want simple and don’t mind the box look of the machine in which I think looks classy and clean. You’ll absolutely love this machine and won’t regret your purchase. ... show more

This espresso machine is amazing. Don't listen to the reviewers on Amazon saying that they couldn't get good results, this machine is easy to use as far as real espresso machines go. An important note to make is this machine cannot be used with tap water like every other high end espresso machine, I highly recommend getting a water distiller and mixing up Dr. Pavlis water (Google for recipe and more info). Using overly hard water will ruin this machines boiler prematurely. The first machine I received was faulty, this was a bit frustrating but Seattle Coffee Gear was very fast to make it right and replaced my faulty machine.     • Shrieking and vibrating and company won’t support

Bought this because of a “buy it for life” claim floating around. No. Product shrieks rhythmically. Low key obscene. Excessive vibration. Portafilter misaligned and stuck. Contacted Rancilio NA and they basically told me I’m SOL and will have to pay for service it ship it. I have owned the product for a month. Wasted a grand and neither Amazon nor Rancilio care to help. Wow. ... show more
