These certainly do the job and can help with hose clamps in tough-to-reach spots. The mechanism doesn't feel particularly robust, and with the visible flexing I can see this not suitable for high-volume usage. I read reviews and felt they were good enough to try it out. Unfortunately, (in my opinion) these are not carbon steel. I was able to get the clamping jaws around the hard to reach hose clamp, however, when squeezing the handle to put force on the hose clamp the locking device just stripped the teeth/gear the first time and would not hold/lock in place. After several attempts on an upper hose clamp that was easy to get to, I gave up and went to O’Reilly’s and paid $40 for theirs, which worked first time. I wish it opened a tad bit more, for the cooling hoses on my 2001 F-250 7.3L It’s got edges other than the intended ones that can catch unexpectedly. I couldn’t have done the job replacing all my cooling lines without it. Made the job 1000x easier than channel locks.

I love the idea but the quality just isn’t good enough for long term use. I figured one of the little ears that bite onto the clamp would break off eventually and sure enough it did after a month or so.
