I waited a week to see how the skimmer performed to write a review. The thing works great and I have no complaints. The collection cup is on the smaller size but with the drain line you can easily leave it open to drain into another disposal container. Out of the box it was easy to assemble, but I have a few years experience in saltwater setups. The unit felt sturdy, the collection cup twist locks on top and has a drain line which is important if your running a large bio load. I'm using it on a 40 breeder with a 20 long sump. The skimmer won't hang on the side and as per the description it's for a rimless tank or sump. But I simply 3D printed a mount for it. I'm impressed with the little skimmer, cost comparison to other name brand skimmers, it does the same job at a fraction of the cost. The DC control means you can use it to help dial in the skimmer which makes tuning so much easier. I had it skimming well in just a few days, minimal break in time. I would recommend anyone needing a skimmer to go with this over the more expensive units. I'll update this review if anything else pops up down the road. ... show more

    • Well made, and good performance for the price!
I’m using this skimmer in the back chamber of a larger all-in-one tank (80g) with a pretty high bio load. The skimmer fits perfectly, which is awesome considering how difficult it is to find skimmers that fit in rear chambers. No matter how wet or dry you want your skimmate, this thing skims well and starts producing quickly. Pros: - well made - well packaged - pump controller is fantastic - makes plenty of skim - quickly begins to “break in” - quiet and effective skimmer - having owned all the big named skimmers over the years, this is great value. - built in drainage line is a nice feature. Cons: - dialing in the water level will take a bit of patience as the skimmer breaks in. The controllable pump is fantastic for making adjustments, but adjusting the flow by turning the base can be a little tricky. Overall, this is great value for the money, and I’ve already recommended this skimmer to several friends setting up new systems. ... show more

Overall good product, produced good skim and lots of bubbles. Many different ways to adjust the skimmer. I personally had a hard time producing a consistent amount of skim I wanted but it may have been due to my water fluctuations.

Quality is great and easy to assemble. Working in but so far so good. Pump isn’t audible to me. Already pulling skimmate!

    • E6 Code, on two different skimmers!
This skimmer has the potential to be great but unfortunately it constantly stops often and throws the E6 error code. Very frustrating! I tried to take apart and clean making sure everything was put together properly but it still stops with e6 code every hour or so. I even ordered another skimmer thinking the first was just a bad pump, Nope! Second one did the same thing. I even tried putting the skimmer in a 5 gallon bucket with fresh mix of saltwater and it did the same thing, error code E6. I tried purchasing the more expensive Mode aquariums cad lights skimmer which is the exact same skimmer but with a pump that has no controller. That skimmer didn’t have the pump trouble but with no way to control the pump the skimmer always skimmed too wet no matter water height or air intake changed. So after 3 skimmers, this one is getting returned. Hope this review helps someone before they purchase and get to have all the trouble. ... show more

This skimmer has exceeded my expectations. The design of it is very nice and it doesn't take a lot of space. The performance is outstanding and reduced the amount of maintanence required. It's also very quiet. Overall, the value for money is amazing. This skimmer is great.

Started work right away. Never have used a protein skimmer till this one. Played a Lil with it and got it to work right away. Fit well in my jbj 45 tank.

    • Great skimmer so far
The media could not be loaded. It has been installed for just over 1 week now and has been working great. You can see there is a good amount of dark smelly skimmate already collected so it is definitely working. It was a fairly easy set up, just follow the instructions, took about 15-20 minutes from box to tank. Then about a day or two of adjusting air intake vs. water dump to get the level right. Keep in mind you will have to tinker with this to your specific tank to ensure bubbles are just barely reaching the cup. The convenience of the dump valve is nice, the included tubing was very short about 6 inches so not long enough to put around the tank and into a dump jar you see in the video. I had to go to the LFS to get an extension (about 3’), just a heads up, that would be my only critique so far is provide more length on dump tubing but no biggie. Cost about 5 bucks, all good. I wouldn’t suggest keeping it outflowing though in case you forget about it and the dump tube will overflow your jar and potentially end up all over your floor. Instead i open the dump valve when the collection cup gets about half full (every 2-3 days typically). This is safer because if the collection cup gets to full and over flows it just goes back into your tank instead of all over your house. Just a tip. Overall great skimmer so far. By the way I have it on my 25 gallon water box nano with a 20 gallon refugium as shown in video so 45 gallons total water volume, but this skimmer is rated at 80 gallons.
