  • Very happy but wish it had Anderson or MC4 going into the "controller".
Size: iSolar 100W
I was very surprised at the weight of this solar panel. It is by far the heaviest panel that I have. Don't be afraid of the heft. It's not heavy but for a solar panel, it seems like it. It is also compact, comes with a lot of accessories, and seems well made. I set this up in my normal solar "testing" area: bushes at my parent's house. I was charging a 100AH lifepo4 battery. As I couldn't find my MC4 to alligator clips connector, I had to use MC4 to Anderson via an MPPT controller. This was somewhat advantageous as I could monitor the charge. Unfortunately, I forgot to write down the numbers, but it all seemed to fall in line with advertised numbers. I believe I was consistently getting 23-24% conversion. After 8 hours in the Arizona sun, the battery went from basically dead to 13.1 volts. This is slightly higher than what I get with the same setup with my old 100-watt solar panel (Battery charges to 14.1 volts using a 110-volt charger). As I didn't have anything else to charge, I only did the one test. Although I didn't have any problems, I don't like the barrel connector going into the solar panel "controller". I would guess this is to keep the "controller" small and maybe keep costs down, but it just seems like it leaves the potential to disconnect easily. I didn't see if the "controller" is actually a controller or just a hub to connect items. As I will probably only be using this panel to charge lithium/lifepo4 batteries that have internal shutoffs, I'm not really worried about it overcharging something. If I was going to use it on my vehicle, I'd use my MPPT controller or keep an eye on it. The panel has built in kickstands to prop up the panel. Overall, I highly recommend this panel for using on lithium/lifepo4 batteries or with a controller. ... show more

  • Super nice panel for $100 bucks but needs a better DC connector
Size: iSolar 100W
We have lots of solar panels for portable use, from hiking to off grid survival and each has its place. This is a really nice panel for charging power stations and recharging devices. We're mostly going to use it to recharge backup power stations when the grid is down and we're not running our backup generator. On a sunny day it seems to pull down around 60-75w of power so decent for a 100W panel. Let me start with what we love about this panel. First and foremost its one of the few panels we own that does the accessories right. All our folding panels come with cables and accessories but most don't have a place to store the cables and accessories on the panel, so inevitably these will get lost eventually. This panel has a built in storage bag on the panel back that houses all the cables, plugs and accessories. Really nice to know that in an emergency this is a grab and go panel versus searching for the accessories on the others. We have made hook and loop pouches on our other panels for the accessories, but that's the customer providing the solution not the manufacturer. The panel itself when folded is fairly small, about the size of a medium portfolio case, and about 10lbs. It has included kickstands to allow you to set it up facing the sun for the most efficient solar gathering. There are multiple outputs on the attached power box including a 18V barrel connection, 2 USB-A ports and one USB-C port. All this in an easy to carry portfolio size case. No for the stuff that we didn't like as much. First and foremost the barrel connector. It would have been so easy to put any other solid lock connector in place but for some reason they chose a barrel connector. Problem with these is they don't positively lock so they run the risk of coming out if the panel is accidently bumped. Likewise barrel connectors are notorious for failing prematurely due to cable pull which bends and loosens the port. An MC4 would have been ideal, and then they could have included adapters to adapt the MC4 to the various barrel connectors provided. Positive lock on the panel, but still not great on the other end, but that's a connection to another accessory so not the fault of this panel. The second issue, which isn't an issue yet is with the attached power box. Everything works fine now, but if any of the ports become compromised you run the risk of having a worthless panel. A better solution would have been a MC4 output cable to an external box with the same connectors as the attached box. The plus side there is simplicity of the direct MC4 power if that's all you needs, but also the flexibility of all the other connectors in the external box. One plus side to this configuration would be that you could use a longer MC4 cable to the solar panel outside, on a roof, top of car etc. then have the USB and other connectors near the devices versus having to have the devices near the panel or having to carry a USB extension. Overall for $99 this is a really nice panel, and despite the few flaws we've pointed out, it still is a great buy and a good performing panel that we would still recommend. ... show more

  • Never heard of this brand, but thought we would try it out, very surprised!
Size: iSolar 100W
Ok, so we took a gamble on this as the description wasn't very detailed and the image for the listing was just a drawing of a 100w folding solar panel. Now that we have received it and looked it over, and tried it with our Bluetti solar generator, here are the details that are lacking on the listing. - This folds out into 4 panels, pretty typical for most of these folding 100w panels. - These have velcroed and elastic kickstands, something that really surprised us and works very well. Our other Rockpal panels do not have this. - The finish on the solar panels cells looks weird, almost like lizard skin. I was worried this would affect its performance, because all of our other solar panels (we have 3) are smooth and matte finish on the solar cell sections.. - These put out 70w of power to charge our Bluetti which is pretty admirable, given that we were in the midwest measuring this late in the afternoon, and this output is pretty typical of many 100w panels. - The casing/weave of the folding case is very dense and seems to be of pretty good quality. - You get a multi-output USB cable (USBA at one end, and mico/usbc/lightning at the other), a multiple plug universal set, a 2.5mm DC/DC cable and then a 2.5mm MC4 cable. - There is just a small USB power distribution box that manages all of these cables. 2 USB and then that DC 2.5 output. - Our other panels have a dedicated part that outputs to MC4 and then a USB box, but this doesn't, you have to cable everything into that USB box. - You have 2 ways to charge your solar generators, either via the MC4 or with the 2.5mm and universal plugs. - Nice zippered compartment to hold all these cables For the price point of $99, this is actually a shocker of a solar panel. We weren't expecting what we received, but quite frankly, it is pretty nice. It is exactly the same dimensions as our newer Rockpal 100w panel, and our much older Rockpal 100w panel is much larger, so I guess these are shrinking over the years! ... show more
