Our dog is old and has a collapsing trachea, and lately, it's caused a persistent cough. It's like we now have a honking goose-dog - a nocturnal, honking goose-dog. What fun. The cough became persistent due to the throat irritation from coughing - a worsening cycle since the throat wasn't getting a chance to heal. And that's all this stuff does, suppresses coughing: thus, allowing healing. For the size of our dog twelve drops twice daily mixed into food with a little chicken broth works great. At first, we were counting the drops 1,2,3, ... But now we were familiar with how full the vial should be so we eyeball it, and we're in the ballpark. It works. The coughing is still there with exertion, but as I said he has a condition. And we're no longer lying awake at night with a "honky" the goose-dog. He started sleeping through the night right away. After three weeks we're aware when we miss a dose. But he likes it so much he'll take it with anything that will mix or absorb it. The bottle should last another month I'd say. It's an excellent value. But I'd caution against relying solely on it. We also bought a sort of honey for dogs that, as you expect, also coats the throat with another proprietary blend of whatever. It too is on Amazon. The idea is slightly different things to accomplish the goal. He likes both. But this. Can't hurt. For us, it does help. We will buy it again. ... show more

My 12 year old Chihuahua/ Pomeranian started getting a high pitched coughing noise. She use to just get excited and get a slight cough that sounded like she was hacking up a hairball, but this turned into a high pitch coughing fit for a few minutes at a time. I suspected collapsing trachea but brought her to the vet to make sure it wasn't a heart problem. They confirmed it was collapsing trachea.. :( They told me it is common in small breeds and suggested I give her a medication. They gave me Cerenia (which is an anti nausea pill to stop the vomiting reaction...) I tried it and it helped a little bit, but then after a month or 2, it seemed to not be working or helping anymore.. I searched online and found this stuff. I was a little surprised at 44$ for 2 oz.. but I bought it because I'd pay anything so she did not have to suffer like this! We give her a small spoonful of wet dog food with 7 drops on it (per her weight)1- 2 x a day and it honestly helps the couching so much! I suggest on wet food instead of in water bowls, because they get the full amount in a dose and it works! Almost instantly! I purchased it on July 18, 2018 and have been using it daily (for 2 months now, not even half way through the bottle yet), she has gotten sooo much better, we even skip some days because she does not even cough once! I would seriously pay 200$ or more for this stuff because it helps her soo much and it really breaks my heart when she was suffering with the coughing. But now she is back to her happy self! Anyone with collapsing trachea and high pitch couching, I Highly recommend this stuff! And it lasts for months with small dogs! My dog is 12lbs and in 2 months I used 1/4-1/2 the bottle. (I have cut down to 7 drops, 1x a day unless I hear her cough, then I will do a 2nd dose. So this bottle should last a 12lb dog about 6 months! ... show more

Gave the product time to work, as it isn’t instant relief. My pups cough continues to be exactly the same as before we started this medication. Reading the other reviews I had high hopes and was praying this would give my girl even a little relief. Did not help at all!! Waste of money.

    • My dog doesn't like the taste...
Many reviews mention dogs loving it and even licking it up. Not speaking on product effectiveness, but my senior min pin with tracheal collapse doesn't like it at all, and immediately after having it administered she has a coughing fit. Every time. I haven't tried putting it in her food, but may. It's very expensive, and there is a kennel cough liquid on here that is much less expensive that seems to work, along with a cool mist machine burning Vicks liquid constantly. As far as being listed as "Bacon" flavor. Um, smell it. If bacon ever smelled like that we humans would not eat it. While that alone is not a deal-breaker, it doesn't seem to be an honest description. Clearly, I didn't taste it, but going solely off the smell, I'd describe it as more of a black licorice flavor. If it is effective, however, it's medicine, it's not always expected to be tasty. We use and administer medicines based on their effectiveness. That being said... The effectiveness of the product? Unsure actually. I use multiple methods simultaneously to keep her comfortable, so I just can't say what part works and which doesn't. I'd try others, like kennel cough ones first and see how effective that is before spending this amount of money on this product at the start of treatment. As you'll likely try many products, methods along the way just trying to do whatever you can to keep your baby's windpipe open and his/her breathing as comfortable as possible, as long as possible.
