  • Solid Build, Nice Features, NOISY
Size: Enclosure
Test Rig: Razer Blade Pro 2020 (RTX 2080, 32GB) Win10 x64, Thunderbolt 3 OWC Mercury Elite Pro (empty), added 2x 4TB WD Red Pro Initial thoughts: I wanted to write a review of this product from a Windows user point of view as many computers on this side of the spectrum still don't come equipped with TB3. I'm running 2x 4TB drives in Raid0 formatted in exFAT. Overall, the enclosure is pretty solid feeling, made out of metal with nice rubber feet. Since I went with spinning drives, the feet help absorb the vibration of the drives on my desk, and it's barely noticeable. I've connected the enclosure to my laptop with the included TB3 cable. My laptop doesn't have an onboard ethernet port, so the dock's gigabit ethernet port was a nice feature. I am running a RedNet X2P Dante interface, and I have no additional latency in Dante Controller and everything works nominally. Ookla speed test doesn't show any difference between my old TB3-Ethernet adapter and the OWC gigabit port. Speed Tests: I included a screenshot of the BMD drive speed test. I ran a small real world test in Premiere with some footage from my bmpcc6k in 6k braw, and I was able to playback footage at full resolution with color grading. It seems promising, but time will tell. 360mb/s from OWC onboard TB3 port connected to a Samsung T5 250 mb/s from OWC onboard SD card reader from UHS-II v90 chip 370 mb/s from OWC onboard TB3 port connected to internal Samsung NVME NOISE: The fan noise was unbearable 30 seconds after turning it on. It has a high quality NOCTUA fan, but the tight chassis causes the air to just be noisy! I unplugged the fan from the little PCB and the device still functions fine and is now nearly dead silent. After using it for about 3 hours, the sides of the enclosure are room temperature, and the rear with all the i/o is also room temperature. It's probably a risk but as an audio person I need silence. I'm not advising anyone to do this, but I did. Overall, I consider it a good buy and recommend it to someone looking to add some decent storage to their kit. ... show more

  • Interface works perfectly
Size: Enclosure
I used this to replace a 2010 Mac Pro with a 2021 model Mac Mini with M1. I had 3 requirements; 1) it had to fit the two 3.5 inch hard drives that were in the Mac Pro. 2) it had to have displayport video output to fit the full size displayport to mini-display port adapter on my Apple cinema monitor. 3) it had to be capable of "daisy chaining" thunderbolt ports. This enclosure literally saved me $2000 in additional hardware I would have had to buy for this upgrade ($1600 for Apple display + $200 each for SSD storage). OWC, please do not replace this enclosure with an "upgraded" model. ... show more

  • Reliable
Size: Enclosure
I’ve had two of these running in raid 0 for a year without any errors. I have maxed out the read write speed that it projects so this is a good product.

  • Reliable, easy to set up RAID solution
Size: Enclosure
Product arrived in good shape and was easy to set up--remember to select your RAID option while you have the drive open to insert the two HDDs. After reassembling the drive, just plug it in to your ThunderBolt 3 or 4 port--easy. The drive is fast although it can be a bit noisy.

  • Works fine .. not too loud!?
Size: 36 TB
After having read other reviews, I ordered this expecting the fan to sound like a jet engine. What am I missing? I used an app on my iPhone, in a quiet room, and took measurements six inches away from the device while it was writing and reading to disk. 48-55 dB was the range I observed over a minute. Sure it’s noticeable, but hardly obtrusive, especially for the nice fit and finish, and driver / utility-less functionality. ... show more

  • 8TB for all but RAID1
Size: 8 TB
Was pumped to get this. Disappointed when I realized that this 8TB RAID drive would only be 4TB in RAID1. Nice construction on the enclosure, however. Returned.

  • You'd have to be deaf to use this product.
Size: Enclosure
What were the people at OWC thinking when they released this product? OWC is known, far and wide, for the quality of their products. And here, with the Mercury Elite Pro Thunderbolt 3 Dock and Dual-Drive RAID Enclosure, they have failed completely. This is the noisiest computer device I have bought in over 20 years. Seriously. You would have to be deaf, or just not care, to use this product. I have it here, sitting next to a Mac 2010 tower with four drives spinning, a Mac mini, and a full Mercury Elite Pro Quad, and they are, all together, silent by comparison to this dock. I bought this device to compliment a new M1 Mac. And, OMG, what a wonderful companion, except for the noise, which is untenable. Otherwise, this is a good as it gets. A screaming fast seamless doc with drives that are all tied to your computer and boots automatically, how could they lose? Well, now we know, make a device that is so loud it overwhelms all other sounds in your work space. So loud that if you do any audio work you are hosed. The sad thing is there is no obvious alternative other than getting a separate drive bay and dock, at a considerable increase in overall cost. But hey, using this, as is, is completely unacceptable. And, it breaks my heart to say it, this device has destroyed my confidence in OWC. Never again will I buy from them without reading the product reviews, and considering the alternatives. Please, read the reviews, do a search and find the threads on Mac Rumors and elsewhere. This is not a one off problem for a few. This is a real, product wide, deal breaker. I'm returning mine. ... show more

  • Works perfectly and is very quiet
Size: Enclosure
Read some reviews that this was a very noisy product, so I was hesitant to buy it, but there weren’t many other options. Glad I bought it! Works great and is very quiet, makes almost no sound at all. Awesome product!
