  • Spend the 15 minutes setting up Dirac on this bleeding edge receiver!
Amazing device. I have a terrible listening area. Our family room is open to 2 out of 4 walls with vaulted ceilings. It's a mess. But I spent 15 minutes with the iPhone app (also available to Android users), put the mic in 3 places and it sounds AMAZING! You know how most home theater sounds like "I can hear that stuff is coming from the left channel now"? Dirac breaks that completely to where, if you spend the time for setup, you can't hear which speaker the audio is coming from. It's just there. I spent a lot of time listening to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour Atmos mix on this monster, and it's just incredible. I can't tell which speaker Tay is singing from, she seems to be singing slightly left of center while her guitar guy is slightly right of center. The bass guy is more right of the guitar guy, and her backup singers seem to be coming from everywhere. If you care about how things sound, Dirac + Atmos is the only way to go. Not to gush, but Dirac makes me feel like we're finally at the point where home audio is at least similar to Dolby Theaters. I've got 3 of these beasties and every room that I set up sounds just incredible. I'm an older GenX and my hearing isn't so great anymore, but I can throw Monolith/Monoprice speakers on these receivers, run Dirac Live, and things sound better than I could have ever expected. If you need a home theater receiver, buy this. Or buy something with Dirac Live. If you care about how things sound, you'll love this. ... show more

  • Great so far
I have not had any issues with this receiver. I had an old Denon 40lb dolby digital set up and before that an old HK avr 525 50lb beast. Once i got the Onkyo 7100 set up and ran Dirac it was an eye opener. It sounded so much better. My set up now is in a small room with LRC, rear surrounds, sub and atmos top fronts. My speakers are a comedy of mismatch and it still sounds really good. I have only used this for TV and movies as my music comes from a separates system in another room. My HT is FAR from an ideal set up but i was amazed at what this receiver could do. In a large room with less efficient speakers I might hesitate to recommend the 7100. It does not have pre amp outs for amps and I wish it did. I do hear the fan relay click on now that it is in a audio rack driving 7speakers. My older receivers had a much beefier output w/5 amps than Onkyo’s w/9 @20lbs. This receiver has a many other features and capabilities that i do not use and cannot comment on. Bluetooth sound quality is what it is. Use a WiFi streamer. Dirac worked very well for me after some learning curve. Not sure what is going on with this Company. I purchased this Onkyo 7100 receiver @ $640 ... show more

  • If you run into this issues...
Wiring was easy for my 5.1.4 setup. Ran into these issues and fixes: 1.) No video displayed during initial setup. I could not get the initial setup to appear on my Vizio tv no matter how many tries and restarts of both the tv and the AVR. Fix/workaround: Hooked AVR to a computer monitor via HDMI and was able to see the initial setup, and go through the whole process, including DIRAC. It'll eventually say your tv is not setup for ARC, but just finish the entire setup first, and then swap your HDMI cable from the monitor to your tv. The ARC/eARC will work. 2.) After a couple minutes of playback, the AVR turned itself off. Once I turned it back on, the AVR would go into diagnostic mode and eventually show "check speaker wire" on the front display. Fix: Check all speaker wires and connections to the speakers. For my situation, the wires going to my two front speakers came loose and I had to re-attach them. 3.) Constant hum from the subwoofer only when the AVR was powered off. Fix: The RCA cables were bad and swapping them for better quality cables eliminated the hum. So far the AVR is working just fine. The initial setup issues were very annoying but luckily we have spare computer monitors to use for these types of odd situations. ... show more

  • A great replacement for the TX-NR747
Replaced my 9 year old TX-NR747 with the TX-NR7100. Now I have a 9.1 channel system and support for more audio formats. The remote is a bit small and the location of the volume button is too low on the remote, it would be better if it was in the middle of the remote like the it was on the TX-NR747's remote, but this is a very minor issue. ... show more
