I was so excited to get this tent since I live in a beach town, yet I don't want to bake in the sun. I also loved the fact that it is lightweight, no assembly, and creates enough of shade to remain on the beach all day, it broke after 2 uses! Even though I purchased this almost 2 months ago, I still believe they should exchange this product for me! UPDATE:It broke after using it just twice. I wrote a review with just one star since it had been over a month since I purchased it, and thought I wouldn't get a refund; however, I contacted the company, and they got in touch quickly, had me send pics, and it took less than 1 week to receive a new one.     • HUGE, easy to use POP UP shade!

I did a LOT of research before committing to a pop-up shade. For some reason these things, no matter who makes them or how big they are, cost a small fortune. They're the same technology and maybe twice the materials as the $10 pop-up shades for your car windows, so I imagine the manufacturers of these things are filthy rich. Anyway, moving on. I wanted something that would POP up easily, fit my three kids and all of our gear, and give us adequate shade from the Arizona sun during various t-ball games, river outings, etc. This one by Picnic Time seemed like the clear winner, so i took the plunge and payed Amazon the exorbitant fee for this thing, EVEN THOUGH all the reviews said it was nearly impossible to close and put away. I figured, hey, I have a college degree and youtube, how hard can it be? So here's the deal: If you try to fold this thing up left to your own devices and logic you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO. At all. I promise. But, do a quick search on youtube (http://youtu.be/p1ISW-pwUXs) and you will find out that it's SO SIMPLE to close up! Honestly! The only problem is that I swear the man in the videos must be 7 feet tall and 300 pounds because when HE closes his Manta Shelter down it looks like a tiny doll version of what I have. I'm only 5'4" and it is a challenge to say the least to get my tiny t-rex arms maneuvered around it. But after a few practice runs closing it up at home I am now an expert. It is durable, and in my opinion quite spacious. Myself and my three kids use it regularly and we can ALL fit inside. Imagine three kids swarming all around inside with towels, shoes, sunglasses and sandwiches, falling all over each other and pretending very badly to get along. All of that fits inside this shade! My husband can fit too if we sit and make a little room, and he is over 6" tall. Usually he wanders off though, mostly to avoid the chaos that is our life, which has nothing to do with this product at all. So, save your pennies, watch the videos on youtube, practice a couple times, and then you too can say, "Bring on the horrible, scorching summer fun, Picnic Time Manta Pop-up Shelter!" ... show more

We used this once. When we were packing up to leave and attepted to fold the unit up as instructed, we discovered that one of the rods had snapped. As a result, the unit can no longer be folded up to fit inside the carry bag. To put it simply, this is a giant fail.

Worked well this past week on a FL beach. Big enough for my childrn to lay in it. Plenty big enough to create a safe place for our stuff (not as easy for someone to walk by and grab something without taking the time to reach into the tent). Sets up in half a second. It folds up and goes into the bag in less than 20 seconds with some practice. PRACTICE before you take it to the beach. There are YouTube videos. Even if you can't "get it right" the first time, it will still collapse into a flat disc (too big for the bag) that will fit in the trunk of your car. It is strong enough to not bounce around in the typical FL beach breeeze last week. Stormy weather would make it shake and lean. It was thè perfect size for our car's overstuffed trunk. What it was not was the shelter we witnessed another family attempt to setup which was willowy and complicated. Their shelter wobbled and blew all over when none of the other kinds of shelters we saw were having the same trouble. They never could get that "other brand" to go up and stay up. That one included a bug net and roof. To be fair their shelter required good sand tent stakes and they did not have any. Lastly if you think you are going to need stakes to get this shelter to stay put on an especially windybeach - buy some proper beach stakes. The simple bent wire stakes included won't grip the sand. It does allow fowo of the very low beach chairs which position your bum a couple of inches above the sand. ... show more

I absolutely love this sun shelter. It is everything I was looking for. Lightweight / easily transported, easy set up and take down, durable and large. You can't beat the simplicity of just pulling it out of the bag and it instantly pops up. (little ones may need to stand back tho, It pops up with some impressive force lol) I watched people dealing with all the little shelters that use poles like a tent and it seemed so tedious and time consuming. I will repeat what many have said on here: FOLDING THE TENT BACK UP IS NOT THAT HARD PEOPLE!. Seriously, watch the YouTube video. I was skeptical due to multiple reviews on the difficulty of folding it back up so I made sure to test it out before I actually brought it to the beach. I was able to do it with complete ease on the first try and again on the first try while actually at the beach. The shelter is a great size and can fit 3-4 adults easily. I had no trouble with the wind and didn't even use the stakes provided. Once you put your bags and or coolers in the back of the shelter, it's pretty secure. The window in the back also helps the wind to pass through. Overall, I would absolutely purchase again. I was hesitant to spend $50+ on this, but now I am positive I will use this for many summers to come. Well worth the money. ... show more
