SUCH a fun and performative game for our family (2 adults and 2 kids). We laughed a lot!! The rounds go by really fast so it's an easy thing to bring out on a weeknight to kill time before bed. The game is contained in a small box, so the cleanup is really easy. One important warning: it took us about an hour of confusion and false starts to truly understand how to play. Let's just put it this way. When my family first received ONUW on Christmas morning 2019, we opened the box and read the instructions around 4pm, then stayed up until 2 in the morning playing it. Throughout the following week, we played for probably 6 hours every single night. We've since had 4 years of fun and unforgettable memories. We cannot get enough of it. I simply think it is the best game ever invented--the ultimate strategy, deduction, lying, manipulation, and hilarious extravaganza. I absolutely love the app--so that everyone can play and no one has to be a narrator. I truly admire the inclusion aspect--that everyone can have a unique role and task to play (no one has to be a plain, old villager). And I think the fact that it is just one night is frankly genius. It makes it so much faster to play rounds (as opposed to other mafia-style games) and puts less pressure on being a werewolf. I have friends who won't play other social deduction and bluffing games because it stresses them too greatly, but they will play ONUW because the rounds are so short and, of course, there's always the possibility that their card can be swapped! I think it's just brilliant. Every round is different. Every round calls for a new strategy. We can play hundreds of times because there are millions of possibilities for how the game can go! We've bought all the expansion packs, and we truly enjoy trying all the different combinations we can. I play a lot of games, but this one is by far my favorite. We love this game and could spend an entire evening playing with with children, teens and adults alike. If you have a good poker face you're likely able to make it through the game without being detected. However, if you have someone in the group that has true inspector instincts you might have just met your match. We played it many times at family outings and decided it was time for us to have our own copy that will soon be played at a Halloween party where more families will become familiar with the game and its strategy. This game is fantastic, and has a free app that narrates the game for you. You could even do the game for free with index cards and a pen, but the set is nice and pretty cheap. One pitfall: it's based on deception, and certain people come unglued when they get falsely accused of being the wolf, or when their theory, of who is who, is disbelieved. I'm fascinated by how many people I've seen get livid over this, and while I think the game is a blast, you will find people who take it way too personally and ruin the vibe. This is obviously a family friendly game but I will say it’s hilarious when played with a group of friends that have had a few drinks. Everyone gets more competitive, the lies get more flimsy (or seem to), and the arguing gets so entertaining. It’s our favorite game to bring out when hosting a dinner party or having friends over.
