  • Works as recommended!
Color: Basic
Our vet recommended we try this to cut our cat's stress level. I was skeptical at first, but after we put it on him we noticed a change in his mood. He seemed to come to us a lot more often, and spent less time hiding off in a corner somewhere. It did take some time to find a measure where it was tight enough that it didn't fall off, yet not so tight that it caused him problems. Once we nailed that, though, he hasn't messed with it. ... show more

  • Works better than expected.
Color: Basic
I have a cat that is high-strung and hates our other cats. She is somewhat of a bully. I put this collar on her and within 30 minutes she was calm and stopped antagonizing the other cats. She was even nicer to me. This is an amazing product with no negative noticeable side effects.

  • It DOES smell
Color: Basic
This collar does NOT breakaway.... but... it does come off a bit easily. The connection is not strong which is a good thing if you are afraid of kitty getting stuck. One of mine has and chewed right through his collar to get out of it, luckily no abdominal distress. They are VERY smelly of lavender/flowery! Not a fan if the smell but they FOR SURE DO HAVE A SMELL if you are sensitive to such things. Fortunately it does not effect me much, but I do not like it. These collars seem to work much better than the diffusers. My Vet also prescribed a "shen" herbal remedy for cars dogs horses that is only available at the vet. Not the same as what is found on Amazon. ... show more

  • Calms minimally, but better than diffusers
Color: Basic
I spent $100 on 6 diffusers to try to stop an aggressive cat from attacking an anxious cat. The diffusers were only strong enough to make each cat act slightly different. The anxious cat soon started lying on her back in the bedroom, with belly exposed. OK. The aggressor cat started playing with toys for the first time. OK. But the aggressor cat still attacked the anxious cat. So... not much use. So I tried the collars. Again, the cats acted "happily" when alone, but the aggressor still attacked. They are likely best used as a collar to wear for going to the vet or car trips, and that's all. Unfortunately, the collars are super hard to adjust while on the cat, AND they are NOT safety collars which snap apart. So, I cut the buckle off the collars and attached it with twisty ties to a regular safety collar. As far as using them vs diffusers. If you attach them to safety collars as I recommend, then the synthetic hormone is directly under their nose when worn as a collar and thus more efficient than trying to fill your house with the synthetic hormone via diffusers, which have many rules that render them useless, such as that you can't have them near a window or near drafts or near furniture. Also, if going to use them to relax a cat for going to the vet, why bother putting these NON-SAFETY collars on the cat anyway? Just throw it in the carrier with him, or attach it around a zipper or something inside the carrier so it is held securely at nose height... ... show more

  • Worked for both my cats
I first used this product on my vet's recommendation when I had to fly my two cats across the US and then keep them at a kennel until I could move them into a new apartment. The folks at the kennel reported that my cats were everyone's favorite and the best behaved. Of course I thought they were buttering me up, but when I moved the cats into the apartment, I left the collars on to help them acclimate. I immediately noticed that one cat who's a former indoor/outdoor cat (he became indoor-only b/c he fought too much) who often cries mournfully to be let out as well as for his meals no longer did so and instead vocalized less and in a calmer and less grating manner -- short "meawrs" rather than long wails. Both cats also purred and relaxed more easily. When the collars expired I didn't replace them to see if it could have been the new location that changed their behaviors. The former crier began to cry more and more without his collar. I bought him a new one and the crying began to drop off. The collar doesn't work like magic though. The cat has to get into the habit of calming down with it on. Early on, it works better if you try to help it by petting the cat and comforting it. You get a lot for your effort. Once I got the crier purring with his collar on, he'd lay down and purr and purr. Soon he could get into this relaxed stated with less coaxing. Another way I know the collar doesn't work like magic is that the crier escaped the apartment one day and when he came back, he went back to wailing to go outside even with the collar on. The crying began to taper off again only with time. In the past, he'd escaped without the collar and he made a lot more noise for a longer period of time before it tapered off some. He'd still wail regularly without the collar -- even after "forgetting" the outdoors. With the collar, the crying eventually tapered off nearly completely as his memory of the escape faded. I didn't get the other cat any more collars after the trip since her behavior is generally good anyway. I do have one negative story about the collar involving her. When she tried to get the collar off of herself when I wasn't home, she got it trapped in her mouth. It held her mouth painfully open and my girlfriend was too scared by the cat's panicked state to try to cut it off, which is what I did when I got home. It may have been that I had the collar too loose on this cat though I remember tightening it to the recommended amount before trimming it. Still, I'm not sure I can blame the product in this case. I also think that a break-away collar (which this one isn't) might always come off for some cats, but I wanted to mention this incident so others would be forewarned. I've tried two other companies' calming pheromone collars because they cost significantly less. They both worked just as well as this one on the crier, but I found the sickening artificial "lavender/chamomile" scent much too offensive. I can't imagine the cat liked smelling like a recently cleaned public restroom all the time either. He did scratch at the scented ones more often as well as over-cleaned himself when he had them on. While they both calmed him down, I'm willing to pay more for this brand because it's virtually scent/odor free. In summary, this collar worked well to help a neutered 9 YO male indoor/outdoor cat be okay with becoming indoor-only. ... show more
