  • Great lens!!!

Easy to hand hold! Very sharp!!

  • Really great value
*: Black
I've been very impressed with results from this lens. No, it is not the fastest at focusing - particularly if you're going full near/far range. But it is plenty quick and sure on modern cameras (Z6iii,8,9). But it is the best value option that covers that 200-400 range and, best part, that value comes with remarkably few compromises. Recommended. Would be 'highly recommended' but it's getting fairly old and I'm guessing Nikon will update it soonish. ... show more

  • Love it! Use it with a 2.0 extender & works fine. Especially good with Nikon's Z8 or Z9 cameras

I purchase this to replace my 120-300 f/2.8 lens. At 85 years old that was too heavy for me. This works great with Nikon Z8. I do recommend this for Birds -in-flight photography!

  • Sharp and very flexible

Tons of reviews out there detailing IQ. Having a 400/4.5, I didn't think I would keep this lens. This is now my goto hiking lens. Coupled with. a 24-70 I'm covered for almost anything. Add a Canon 500D and close up work is straightforward. Very nice lens!! Doesn't replace the 400/4.5 though but when you need a zoom, you just need a zoom. Handier than a 70-200 + 1.4TC, though that combo is really nice too, just long and a bit heavy. IQ is much better than my 70-200 + 2.0TC. ... show more

  • Sharp lens

Note this is a Z lens. It is heavy and big, but it focuses very quickly and is super sharp. I'm quite satisfied with it. I use it with a Nikon Z6 II mostly for photographing running horses.

  • Great lens, with two drawbacks
*: Black
This lens is sharp. It's sharp wide open at all focal lengths. Some say it's slightly less sharp at 400mm, but at least at long distances, I am unable to see the difference. Rendering is a little flat, it doesn't quite have the punchy contrast of Nikon's best lenses. But it is a big zoom after all. The lens does however have two drawbacks: 1) The zoom lens is out front, making this lens hard to handle. I use the control ring, and constantly move back and forth between the two, which requires big jumps with my hands. Worse, the focus ring lies in between, and I bump it all the time. IMO the focus ring should be up front, and the zoom in the middle, like on the 24-120/4. Most users will pair this lens with the 24-120, and then you have to constantly context switch when you switch lenses. 2) The tripod foot & collar. You have to rotate it out of the way to use this lens. And the collar is not detachable, so even without the foot you still have the collar with a sharp foot attachment and the fastening knob to contend with. A detachable collar would have been a much better solution - AND it would save on weight when hand-holding the lens. ... show more
