  • Perfect Wi-Fi Range Extender for my house
In the past couple of months, I have been experiencing issues concerning my connection when I was inside my bedroom. This has lead to laggy video calls and poor viewing of my videos at night. As a result, I had to move into my office whenever I wanted to do any of these, however, I sometimes like to call my girlfriend at night while we sleep. I saw this product and bought it while it was on sale, and it came the next day. This product is perfect since it was an easy setup, extends the range of my signal, and is unnoticeable at first glance. The setup for this product was very easy. At first, it felt like a headache since I was confused why the device was not pairing to my wifi router. I read the instructions and realized that I was doing it wrong. ****As a tip, make sure to wait an extra minute after pressing the pair buttons, as once the lights stop flickering, the device is beginning the pairing process. I assumed that it was not pairing and gave up on trying to pair, but I found out that the device had indeed paired, I just was inpatient. Overall, if you follow instructions it is very simple to pair. The main purpose of this extender is to extend the range into my bedroom. And it does its job perfectly. When positioning the device, place halfway between the router and the intended room/area of coverage. I placed it in my office where it has a very strong signal. The product fits right into a socket, and as soon as you pair it to your phone, you are all done. The signal is very strong, a bit weaker than the regular signal in my office, but it is perfect for everything that I do. I am extremely satisfied. The main reason I love this device is that I can place it where nobody can see it. I have placed the device behind a couch, and because the device is slim, it fits perfectly. It does not stick out like a sore thumb, and it's super easy for me to access it in case I want to change the position. In conclusion, if there is a signal in your house that needs a signal boost, get this product. I am very satisfied with how well it covers my room. Please note that this product is not a stronger signal than without connected near the router, rather it allows the range to be extended. Do not use this product if you want it for gaming, streaming, or downloading content, as it will be slower than the normal router. Its main purpose is to extend to dead zones in a house or large body of space. This product is perfect, and I highly recommend it for anybody who wants to boost signal in a slow part of a house. ... show more

  • Surprisingly good performance and easy setup out of a very inexpensive extender
USE CASE Due to the disappointing antenna performance of the 2.4Ghz radio of the Ring Pro Video Doorbell, I tried to use a D-Link DAP-1320 that I had lying around. At a distance of 15 feet from the doorbell, there was plenty of signal strength, but the performance was extremely poor. I decided to try the Netgear AC750 as an alternative to putting another Ubiquiti AC-Lite on the wall, but my expectations were not very high. After all, extenders generally do not have multiple radios for simultaneous incoming and outgoing transmissions on the same frequency, so bandwidth is usually half (or less) than the source network. SETUP The setup procedure for the device was quick. Basic setup is handled via a wizard, but I have a few gripes. The wizard could have (should have) disabled one of the radios if the network survey did not find a network in the 2.4 or 5Ghz range. Also, I think that WPS should be disabled by default in all devices unfortunate enough to have that living, breathing, security vulnerability. Once past the wizard, it's easy enough to disable a radio, turn off WPS, and load the newest firmware. PERFORMANCE My source AP is a 2.4Ghz UniFi UAP (150Mbit/s 802.11n), at a range of 65 feet (AACF, through 3 walls). On the AP, my little laptop manages about 30Mbit/s up and down at that spot. The DEP-1320 to the laptop maxed out at around 1.5Mbit/s up and down, which is miserable. Attached to the repeater, the same laptop managed about 18Mbit/s up and down. The doorbell works fine now, but I wish that the repeater hadn't been necessary. I can't comment on the 5Ghz performance, as I don't use it on that side of the house. ... show more

  • Works, but not easy for a novice to get it working
I am an intermediate computer user. I am in graphic design, but have no training in IT or computer science. This thing works quite well with my dual channel 5G router. However! I tried everything under the sun to get it to link up to my router using the computer. The instructions were clear on what to do. I followed them. It was so frustrating that I nearly returned it. I never called tech support. Then I tried setting it up on my iphone. It was set up with minimal fuss in less than 10 minutes. It was EASY actually. BUT! A big but here, if you are a novice with computers, routers, networks, etc, GOOD LUCK with trying to get this set up. If you are intermediate to advanced, you will have no problem but I recommend setting it up with your smart phone. This may be helpful to others. They don't explain the big picture, probably because they feel like if you are buying this router wifi signal extender, you are already computer saavy. Here is my interpretation, so maybe another dummy like me can understand. 1) The device makes a new wifi to connect to. Let me explain. Say when you get on your laptop or smart phone at home where you have a router and wifi, it shows your router's default name as "e78u64" or maybe you renamed your connection as "Shackles." Maybe you see your neighbor's network and he named his "ImAretard" and your other neighbor's is "Tardis". You know the routine, you pick your network (Shackles), and you use the password printed on the router to log in your device, and it will be the one printed on the router unless you changed it yourself. It works that way to log in your smartphone, ipad, xbox, laptop, whatever it is you have that needs wifi. 2) So what this litte box does (Wifi Extender) when you set it up near your router, is that is links to it but makes a new name. So if my router was called Shackles, it makes what looks like a new router in your list of wifi networks. It defaults to using your router's name and adds _EXT to it. So when I use my iphone and go to settings and hit wifi, I can connect to Shackles or Shackles_EXT. The latter acts like another router but it is in reality just the extender you are connecting to that is linked to the original router. 3) So what does it all mean? Well, say my router is in the den where I hang out and use my wifi devices. I can probably connect to Shackles since the signal is strong in the same room. Now say I have a detached garage in the back yard that has been converted into a workshop or maybe a game room with a pooltable where me and the guys hang out and have some beers and maybe play xbox. Welp, I find that I can't get a good enough signal from my router in the den. Xbox is lagging big time on my online multiplayer first person shooter games. So I plug in the extender in the garage. Lo and behold I can connect to Shackles_EXT with a very strong signal and everything works great with no lag or slow connectuon. Smart people may think I'm an idiot for writing all this. I don't care. I just hope it could help someone like me who didn't understand how this damn thing worked out of the box. ... show more
