  • Very Legit Gin Substitute for Mixed Drinks
I was a social drinker during most of my adulthood and a dry martini was my favorite cocktail. However, at about the age of 60, my tolerance for alcohol became very limited and then vanished all together. According to the doctors, the enzymes that convert the poison in alcohol into a harmless vinegar just "left the building." It wasn't physically hard for me to quit drinking, but I did miss the social ritual with friends and the occasional quiet "happy hour" with my wife. As such, I have greatly welcomed the trend toward the production of zero percent alcohol alternatives. For beer, Heineken Zero fills the void very nicely. For wine, I mix 50-50 Ariel Chardonnay non-alc wine with Fusion Verjus Blanc (which can be purchased on Amazon). The tartness of the verjus cuts the slightly sweet taste of the Ariel and makes a nice sipping drink that looks just like white wine. So what to do for spirits? For the last several years, nothing. Then, yay, the zero spirit movement arrived, with such options as Ritual gin, whiskey and tequila, various Lyre's "spirits" and Monday Gin. I first ordered the Ritual Gin, but was very disappointed in the pine/soapy flavor. Even the best Fever Tree tonic couldn't make it better. My wife took one sip and declared it to be her last! After reading Monday Gin reviews, I ordered a bottle. When it arrived, I was concerned that it was cloudy, not clear. But I learned that this is a result of the oils associated with the juniper berries they use, a key ingredient in real gin. So I mixed my first gin and tonic - and both my wife and I were delighted to find that it made a VERY LEGITIMATE G&T! But how about as a dry martini substitute? No, it can't play that role. If you are wanting a zero gin that legitimately replaces the flavor of a dry martini, I don't think it can be found. This leads to this important point: A dry martini should not be the standard of comparison. The standard should be how it performs as a mixed drink substitute for gin. And in this respect, Monday performs very well. And what about the price? I have heard some reviewers say, "If I am going to spend $35-$40 on a bottle", I want the alcohol in it!" For someone like me who can no longer safely drink alcohol, I hear this critique like this: "I will only spend $35-$40 if the bottle includes the poison!" Here is a more sensible way to look at it … Because I can no longer drink alcohol, my spending on "drinks" is overall way, way less than before - especially notable when a restaurant server brings the dinner tab. So if I have to spend a bit more for a substitute that I can use at home to encourage both festive and quiet moments, that's okay. I also recognize that the founders of Monday Gin have no doubt put a great deal of creative effort into producing a drink that mimics gin. Making real gin is no doubt much easier. After all, it’s been made for a few centuries. So in closing, I say thank you to the makers of Monday Gin and hope that others looking for a substitute for real gin in a mixed drinks will give Monday Gin a try! ... show more

  • Gin it is
I've tried many non-alcohol spirits, such as Ritual, Seedlip. Monday is legit. Great forward Juniper taste. I'd like a better burn but that is on ice with splash of lime, when mixed with tonic or soda, is spot on. It's like Heineken 0.0 to other non-alcohol beers, 0.0 is top. Monday is top non-alcohol spirit in my opinion. I was 2-3 gallon of spirits a week 8-10 beers a day 7x7 for a decade. Monday takes the edge off quitting the poison. ... show more

  • An amazing product I didn't know I'd appreciate so much!
I just bought another bottle of Monday Gin (non-alcoholic gin) after hearing it was now available on Amazon Prime. I supported the Kickstarter for this product start-up so have already consumed a few of these bottles of Monday Gin already. I have to tell you as I mentioned to Chris Boyd the founder when he reached out to me during the funding of his Kickstarter program, I am of the generation that didn't quite understand why anyone would want to buy any beverage that tasted like alcohol that didn't have alcohol in it - I'm mature enough to understand and admit that I enjoy the effect as much as I enjoy the taste of my libations of choice, so figured what's the point?! But with Chris explaining to me that it's a solid alternative for designated drivers and also for persons who want to 'meter' their alcohol consumption by maybe having one cocktail with alcohol followed by a couple without and so on through-out the night, I came to appreciate what he was doing so through the kickstarter wound up buying enough bottles of Monday Gin for myself and also to give away to all my kids as Christmas presents last year. Before going further let me just say that the Kickstarter overwhelmingly hit it's funding target and Chris was able to deliver ALL my bottles before Christmas and the finished product is AMAZING. In terms of packaging and taste quality it really hits five stars on both points. A bottle that looks smart on your bar and also a non-alcoholic gin alternative that can carry the taste quality of any gin cocktail (and it aint bad as a straight shot either - and you know that if you buy a bottle of this you are going to try that as well). But in terms of my consumption, since the holidays I've gone on a diet to lose weight. In that effort I had initially curtailed all liquid consumption to a pint of milk, three cups of coffee and as much water as I want drink each day. No craft beer, wine and no distilled spirits. And I'm happy to say I've been hitting my weight goals so I'm happy with my effort so far even though I really miss my nightly beer or cocktail. But it's difficult when meeting with friends, like at a BBQ for Superbowl where everyone is drinking beers, Greyhounds and what have you, to confine myself to a bottle of sparkling water without feeling like I'm not part of the party and have been relegated to the temporary folding card-table with the rest of the children while the adults are all partying and having a good time at the grownups table. Then it dawned on me. I could grab a tumbler, pour my sparkling water over ice, add a couple shakes of bitters and two shots of Monday Gin and now at pretty close to zero calories (Monday Gin is zero calories - I think the bitters adds 4 calories) I'm feeling like an adult amongst my friends, fully at the party and sitting at the big table again! (how many calories are in a contact high?) To hit my weight goal on my diet I'll be doing this for the next couple of months and I really enjoy having a fun libation substitute to add to my restricted list of daily liquids, especially when at get togethers with friends and I'm excited to discover and come up with other low calorie recipes which include Monday Gin for those occasions to share with friends, both as an alternative when faced with wanting to limit calories and also as a means towards more responsible consumption. So non-alcoholic gin. I get it now and will likely be keeping at least one bottle of Monday Gin on hand always and certainly right now while dieting I'll be consuming it in a variety of low-cal virgin cocktails pretty regularly. I'm hoping Chris and company come up with Monday Tequila and Monday Irish Whiskey to add to the offering (Monday LSD-25?, hmmmm, maybe not) Thanks Chris and keep it up! ... show more

  • Now I can have my G&Ts again!
I have a medical condition that is aggravated by alcohol. I've tried various "mocktails" but have been underwhelmed by the flavor. But this Monday Gin is the real deal! I tried it first with Fever Tree regular tonic and it was just OK. Then I tried it with Fever Tree's elderflower tonic. Yummy! The extra sweetness of the elderflower made for a delicious drink. I now look forward to a summer on my patio with my beloved G&T by my side again. ... show more
