  • The Peahi in the Tortoise Frame is AMAZING!
Color: Tortoise/Hcl Bronze Polarized Lens Width: 65 Millimeters
I have had the Stingray in the tortoise since 2016 and I love them. The Peahi in the tortoise is like a big brother to the Stingray. The fit is perfect for me just like the Stingray, not too large and these have the most amazing wrap out there. I can also snug these right up against my face without having my eye lashes raking the inside of the lenses, which eventually mucks up the clarity and requires frequent cleaning. Let me say that the tortoise frame is the one to get, MUCH BETTER than the rubber. It is not even close. When you hold these in your hands you instantly feel the quality of craftmanship, just as I do with my Stingray frame. Last week I received the Local Kine from MJ directly and the frames no longer say 'Made in Italy'. So not sure where they are made now. The tortoise frames are VERY comfortable, more so than the rubber, which left me feeling like I was slipping on a straight jacket, with the rubber frames there is not enough room for ventilation of your face. I can see why some complain of the fogging with the rubber frames. You will not have that issue with the tortoise, and not to worry, the tortoise frame blocks just as much ambient light from sneaking in. I was also happy to see that the outer box came label-sealed, ensuring that these have never been tried on by someone else, I included a picture of that. And the design of the other end of the box is such that it is impossible to open without tearing the box. So happy to have these! ... show more

  • One big, happy head
Color: Tortoise/Hcl Bronze Polarized Lens Width: 65 Millimeters
These were actually a loss replacement for a pair I bought almost eight years ago that were still in fantastic condition (save for a couple of minor nicks in the lenses thanks to intermittent butterfingers and toddler maulings), so I can speak to the longevity of the product, assuming my good friends at Maui Jim have made no major changes to production methods in that time. If anything, I think this latest pair is actually slightly improved over the old pair, as the frames seem to be more contoured to my oversized noggin (seriously, I wear a size 7 7/8-8 hat). Where the older pair kind of pinched right above my ears, allowing the slightly bowed-out front to 'bounce' a little on my face, these fit my skull more snugly without squeezing or leaving large gutters down the side of my head. In a perfect world, the lenses would be just slightly darker to both keep my light blue eyes happier and allow me more furtive glances when warranted, but I can't complain about them. Everything looks vibrant and they only leave me squinting when the sun's really directly in my eyes (though considering how sensitive I am to light, anything short of a welding mask leaves me vulnerable in that regard). The contours of the lenses and broad arms help keep bright spots from creeping in through gaps. Protection for sensitive eyes? Check. Good fit and look for someone with a head like a Peanuts character? Check. Proven durability over more than seven years of daily use in all kinds of climates and geographies? Check. These things are the best sunglasses I've ever owned and, if I ever lose this pair (knock on wood), I'll be back to buy the same ones again. ... show more

  • Second Pair - Husband Stole first pair
Color: Gloss Black/Neutral Grey Polarized Lens Width: 65 Millimeters
Until I tried my first pair of Maui Jim's 5 years ago, I was a Ray-Ban girl, nothing but Ray Bans. When I was waiting for my daughter at an eye exam, I tried on this pair of Maui Jim's - and wow, amazement. Of course, the eye dr.'s wanted more money for them than I was willing to spend - so I put them back, and bought my first pair from Sunglass Hut. The quality of these glasses is amazing. I'm not sure how or why, but I truly see better with these sunglasses on then without. Everything is crisp and clear - and even if the sun is blazing, you can see clearly without glare. The other day I was driving during sunset - and had to look directly to where the sun was setting to see if another car was coming before crossing the road. My Maui Jim's were perched on top of my head, because I had just left my home. I couldn't see a thing except for bright light reflecting off the roadway, but the moment I put on my Maui Jim's - I could clearly see. The Peahi's are my favorite - they fit well, they retain their shape, and they look good on both my husband and myself. I swear he left his Ray Ban's at Home Depot on purpose so he could "borrow" my Peahi's. That's ok - I got my new pair from Amazon 2 days after I ordered them ! ... show more

  • Amazing, full coverage, crystal clear, lenes scratch fairly easily
Color: Gloss Black/Neutral Grey Polarized Lens Width: 65 Millimeters
Before I started wearing prescription sunglasses these were my absolutely go-to. I still wear them when the correction isn't super important (the prescription is mild). I have light irises, relatively sensitive eyes and work outside, do a lot of sailing, have worked as a launch/water taxi driver in a harbor and as a life guard at a pool. These glasses were critical. I used to get sun related migraines on the job from squinting, straining and exposure, these solved the problem. PROS: - amazing coverage, most peripheral view is still maintained and there is very little "light leak" behind the frames - crystal clear, when these lenses are clean and worn in sunny and partly sunny conditions its almost like seeing HD, it adds contrast and removes the glare without uniformly darkening everything (as Polarization is supposed to do). CONS: - can be a little on the expensive side (don't pay over $150 (they are at $140 at the time of this writing), otherwise check other sellers, ebay, etc). - lenses are not true, pure glass, the coating on the outside is easily scratched from a simple drop on asphalt, impact or even an unintentional brush with a zipper from pulling a jacket on over your head. (I've done all of these). A few things to note: usually something that close to your eye, tiny scratches won't make a different. Also, Maui Jim has a pretty good replacement policy and will replace the lenses for a reasonable rate so you don't have to buy a whole new pair. ... show more
