I'm an aging martial artist who has long used cotton-soled kung-fu shoes as house slippers. I had been three or four years since I'd last bought a pair, and I was very pleasantly surprised to fined that these were much sturdier than similar shoes I'd bought in the past. Both the upper and the sole are heavier and thicker than those that were usually exported to the US in the past. Yet they are still not too heavy for martial practice with a partner or for lounging at home. I only have two minor gripes: 1. The removable insole easily slips out of place and comes out when you remove your foot. (Easily solved with a few drops of Elmer's Glue.) 2. There is no pull tab and the heel to help you yank the shoe onto your foot. These used to be the norm in the old days. Overall, if you haven't bought kung-fu shoes in a while, you're going to be pleasantly surprised. They are definitely less flimsy than you'd expect, and, if they are more expensive than you remember, they are worth it. ... show more

These tai chi shoes are all material/cotton even the soles. They are sturdy for doing tai chi. I bought half size larger which was good/bad. Good cause gives the toe room. Needed to replace my kung-fu house shoes and was dreading having to buy size 9 narrow again. I was surprised to find these much better quality material and constructed shoe in a size 9 normal width from this seller.
