Description

A chilling mini-series based on the 1985 true story of David A. Brown, a computer whiz, who orchestrated his wife's murder with the help of two trusting but totally manipulated teenage girls. Brown (played by Clancy Brown) masterminded this bizarre murder plot by luring his teenage daughter (Moira Kelly), and 17-year-old sister-in-law (Sheryl Lee) into the cold-blooded shooting of his wife. As the lies are peeled away, layer after layer, his sinister web of treachery, deceit, and manipulation is finally shattered in a hailstorm of staggering revelations. The gripping tale of "an almost perfect murder" -- an unflinching portrait of a terrifying killer -- LOVE, LIES AND MURDER is an unforgettable look at one of the most shocking crimes of the last three decades. For the first time on DVD, LOVE, LIES, AND MURDER proves once and for all that fact is truly stranger than fiction.

  • A true story about one evil man!!
I remember when I first saw this & how it pulled me in, I was 14 in 1985 as well, so Cinnamon Brown is the same age as me, this film is about a man named David Brown who was a master manipulator who convinces his 14 year old daughter & his 17 year old sister-in-law to partisipate in the murdering of his wife in March 1985, Cinnimon takes the blame & is sent away to a juvenile facility, meanwhile David collects on life insurance & moves into a bigger more fancy home, & manipulates his 17 year old sister-in-law, & eventually marries her too, & leaves his daughter to stay in prison to fend for herself, Clancy Brown (T.V.s "Lost") is very convincing as Brown, a very underated actor, Sheryl Lee(Vampires) is also convincing as the sister-in-law, but the real standout performance is Moira Kelly as Cinnamon, who had a few films after this, but never really made it big, she should have, John Ashton (Beverly Hills Cop) is great as the D.A. investigator who refused to give up on the case, Daivd Brown almost got away with the perfect murder, but when his daughter realizes that he no longer cares about her, she works with investigators to bring David to justice, there isn't much I can say that others haven't covered here, except to say that in 1990 after five years David was brought to justice & is now serving a life sentence in prison, I believe Cinnemon was released on her 25th birthday in 1995, I am assuming, haven't really researched what happened to her, the fact that this really happened is chilling to watch, great perfromances by everyone here, & one of the few T.V. films I wanted to own, Cynthia Nixon (Sex & the City) is here as well as the nanny that David has a romance with as well, this was truly a sick & twisted man, how anyone could do this to their own daughter is beyond me, but the ending is very satisfying. ... show more

  • This is the Craziest based on reality murder crime I have ever saw!
Update: I just wanted to say that I received this DVD and it works Great, I was very happy since I have been waiting for a long time to obtain this movie on DVD. :) This a 1991 "Lifetime Channel" True Life movie about a man, David Brown, who convinces his daughter and young sister-in-law that his wife is conspiring to kill him so he convinces them to kill his wife first, then he starts having an affair with his 16 yr old sister-in-law and later marries her only to plan to kill her for the insurance money(just like his first wife), all the while his 14 yr old daughter, Cinnamon Brown, was arrested for the crime because her father told her she won't get as much time because she is a minor 4 years later she starts to realize that her father is a liar and tricked her so she works with two investigators to get her father to confess, they already suspected that there was something more to the story than what Cinnamon was confessing to, with there investigation they uncover the twisted private world of David Brown himself unfolded with astonishing clarity -- revealing a trail of perverse love, twisted secrets, and evil mind games. A complex and often dangerous investigation suggested a horrifying scenario: was the seemingly bland David Brown really a stone-cold killer -- who convinced his own daughter to prove her love by killing for him? A man who turned young women into his own personal slaves, who collected nearly $1 million in insurance money, and married his dead wife's teenage sister, David Brown was a sociopath who would stop at nothing...a deadly charmer who almost got away with everything. This is a Bizarre story and unbelievably a True one. Anne Rule wrote a book based on the case called "If You Really Loved Me". This is definately a must see! The movie stars, Clancy Brown (Shawshank Redeption, Highlander), Moira Kelly, Sheryl Lee, Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City), John Aston (Beverly Hills Cop) ... show more

  • Love this movie, but DVD skips in the middle
I love this movie. True story. Just goes to show how much manipulating and lying a person can do. Most of the DVD played absolutely fine. When you get to the middle for about 15-20 minutes it freezes and skips. After that the movie continues on just fine.

  • AWESOME Movie!
The guy in this movie is well played and extremely twisted. It is a joy to watch the movie and you want him to get exactly what he deserves...however, at no point is he truly a monster. He is just manipulative enough to make people do as he wants them to do...It is unreal to think that somewhere out there is a girl that was raised by this man and went through all that he put her through.... ... show more

  • Late 80's/early 90's classics based on a true story
I give the movie a 5 and quality of DVDs a 3 for an average overall rating of 4. This movie, too me, is the best made for TV movie about a family murder based on a true story. I believe it was Moira Kelly's first acting role. She was phenomenal as Cinny. Clancy Brown's portrayal of David gave me chills. The movie stays pretty true to the book and facts of the real life murder for which it based. Watch this movie and it'll make you realize your supposed messed up family isn't so much. ... show more

  • WHAT A SICK PSYCHO FOR A FATHER!!!
Great movie!!! I remember watching this on NBC when I was 10 years old. That was back when the three major networks (ABC, NBC, and CBS ) showed true crime movies all the time. David Brown is a psychopathic killer. At his sentencing hearing on Monday, September 3, 1990, Orange County, California Superior Court Judge Donald McCartin called David Brown, "...a scary person ". I could not agree more! This piece of crap for a father only cared about himself! I can't believe that he didn't get the gas chamber!!! He should have!!! He used his own daughter to get what he wanted. He molested his sister -in -law and used her, too! Linda Bailey Brown loved David but he didn't love her at all! Not really!!! ... show more
