I have almost every stone Lansky makes for the sharpening system including the diamond ones. Ive had issues with the diamond one's coming off due to Crappy glue jobs but you can just glue them back on. This stone is amazing. It is one that I use between my fine diamond and the ultrafine ceramic. This stone will get rid of the larger scratches that the fine stones leave and give you a good edge to start a final polish on.     • High Quality Stone and Fast Shipping!
Black Arkansas, also known as surgical Arkansas, is an extra fine stone with a grit between 1200-2500. It is for polishing an ALREADY fine knife edge. The Lansky stones are for use with the Lansky Sharpening System, however the ergonomic plastic backing makes it possible to use the stone for other polishing purposes such as gunsmithing. Shipping was fast! I ordered it with standard shipping on Friday and it arrived Monday. Unfortunately for me, I thought the stone was going to be bigger. Upon arrival the stone measures out to be 4 x 0.5 x 0.125 inches which does not serve my purpose. I have contacted the seller and asked to return it. I will update my review when I hear back from them. Other than that, the stone is very nice and smooth, and firmly mounted to the plastic backing. I would not hesitate to purchase this item if I owned a Lansky sharpener or wanted a very fine polishing file. Edit: The company refunded my money within 24 hours of contacting them! Well thanks to this little gem I found out how good it really is... with out breaking the bank... mostly in the past I found it difficult to find and when I did find a nice Arky Black the price just took it right out of my hands, until I found this one right here... and for around ten bucks, I was sold... any one wanting to know how good this stone is, I recommend buying one and try it I am pretty sure you wont be sorry!!! ... show more

    • Nothing Beats the Real Thing! Excellent Finishing Stone
This is the latest addition to my Lansky set, and it joins the man-made sharpeners (aluminum oxide, diamond, Sapphire finishing, and Arkansas), and of them all I keep coming back to the Arkansas hones. I own a couple bench stones (hard and black hard Arkansas), and a hard Arkansas Lansky hone, and nothing puts an edge on a knife like the natural stones. The black hard Arkansas stone is a step up in fineness from the hard Arkansas hone. Lansky advertises the hard stone as 650 grit, which is pretty fine. The grit for the black hard isn't listed, but generally this type of stone is in the order of 1200-2500 grit. I own a 2500 grit black hard Arkansas bench stone and there's no discernible difference between them, but the bench stone is a tad finer. The stone is well-made. It's bonded to the plastic holder securely and it's very smooth on the bottom. You need to oil it with oil made especially for sharpening stones (like Nathan's or other brands, don't use motor oil, cooking oil, mineral oil, or gun oil) during use though, very important to lubricate and carry away filings so the face of the stone doesn't get clogged. I use it after the hard Arkansas stone and it gives a very sharp edge like a razor on my kitchen knives and carry knives, and a very fine edge on my big knives. I like this stone better than the LS1000 and Super Sapphire stone because it cuts and gives a more refined edge faster. When done, wipe it off with more oil and put it away. Nothing sharpens quite like Arkansas stones. They can sharpen, but also polish the edge at the same time without raising a big burr (like the ultra hard ceramic or Super Sapphire) that needs to be stropped/buffed off. I have noticed they last longer than man-made abrasives too. They work well on modern hard steels. I can sharpen my CM154 knife pretty easily with Arkansas, and have no reservations it would work with really hard steels like A2, D2, ATS-34, 1095, O1, or s30v, or VG-10. If you like to sharpen your own knives and own a Lansky set, I highly recommend picking up the hard black Arkansas. Pair it with the hard Arkansas and you've got a perfect solution to put a razor fine edge on knives quickly. What I like: Well-made High quality Arkansas stone Quickly sharpens and polishes to a razor edge Easy to use What I don't like: A little expensive.
