  • Terrific Hiking and Scrambling Shoe
Size: 9.5 Color: Spicy Orange
This is, by far, the best hiking and rock scrambling shoe I've ever owned. It's not perfect for all hikes -- it's not waterproof for one thing -- but for hiking in the desert southwest, it's my shoe of choice. I've only worn it for a short period of time, so I cannot attest to its durability, but I like it so much I've order a second pair in case I can't find them again when this pair wears out. Things I like: light weight, comfortable fit, great traction on rocks, pliable for scrambling, also works well in sand. What I don't like: it's a bit pricey I purchased a 1/2 size larger than my street shoe size to account for thicker hiking socks, plus I wanted a little extra toe room for downhill hiking. ... show more

  • Where trail runner meets hiking boot
I do a lot of hiking in the north Georgia mountains and come from a trail running background. I was finding that my feet were getting really beat up on longer hikes in the traditional trail running shoe. I wanted something with underfoot protection and stability but did not want a full blown boot. Also having solid toe protection is really important as I tend to find every rock, root and stump on the trail. I started looking at approach shoes as they seemed to be where a trail runner meets a hiking boot. I've had two pairs of the TX3s now and couldn't be more pleased with them. The toe protection is 2nd to none. Big bumper that comes up over the front and onto the top of the toe box. Very stable shoe that can handle just about anything. Comfortable enough to wear on 30+ mile day hikes, but still nimble enough for when I want to trot a downhill or flat section. Really good grippy outsole works well on wet and dry rock. The only compromise there is you give up a little bit in longevity as the stickier rubbers tend to go a little faster. That said, it's a worthwhile trade off in my mind to have the good traction. Getting ready to purchase my 3rd pair. ... show more

  • 20 mile hike and Half Dome first day with La Sportiva TX3
I've been looking for a good approach shoe for over a year. I wear Altra Timps but isn't ideal with technical ascents and descents. I've come across many good reviews of the La Sportiva TX 2, 3 and 4. I decided on the TX3 I was looking for somthing that would be cool, fast drying, durable and had a good grip that would give me confidence on ascent and decent. I was invited to hike/ climb Half Dome in the Yosemite National Forest. I received my shoes the day before my trip and did not have any time to try them out I took them with me on my trip with no time in them I wore them for the first time on a 20-mile hike with ascent and descent of Half Dome. I was thinking halfway that my shoes were feeling great very comfortable I did not have any hot spots nor did I get blisters on the entire hike did not feel like I had to take them off anytime. On The ascent and descent the shoes gave me confidence I helped another person get up half down and I could feel how well the shoe gripped The Rock even on the smoothest surfaces on Half Dome. I gave the shoes a 4 star because of the color choices just 1 and a little heavier and not as comfortable as my Ultras Timps. But the size was true to size, my foot size is a 11 or so I typically go a half size larger with most of my trail running shoes and boots and these shoes were no different they felt very comfortable the moment I put them on and continue to feel great on the entire hike. Looking forward to testing amount on a canyoneering trip. ... show more

  • Best summer approach shoes ever
Size: 9.5 Color: Spicy Orange
These shoes are the best shoes for summer approaches I've ever had. Rubber has excellent grip and I was able to climb many easy routes mainly using these instead of my climbing shoes. They are quite durable, 1st pair I have doesn't show much sign of wear, except for the sole which is completely understandable after frequent 1.5yr use. I also really like that they are comfortable and really breathable. These shoes are not waterproof, which is also something I like about them since they are really light and airy because of that and my foot doesn't . All in all, best summer shoe for climbing approaches. This is my second pair and I also own one GTX (goretex) version, but GTX are worse in my opinion as they get too hot. The only (BIG) dislike is that La Sportiva apparently does not produce this model anymore since they're getting harder and harder to get and I have yet to find a suitable alternative. I'm thinking of buying another pair and putting them on a shelf. ... show more

  • Stiff!
I don't know if these need broken in more, but after 2 days of backpacking my feet hurt. I run multiple times a week with my long run being about 20 miles so I'm used to being on my feet, but these shoes felt like walking on a plank. The soles are not very flexible and my toes felt cramped. I will say I'm used to 10oz running shoes not trail shoes, so it could just be my feet and what I'm used to, but I gave these to my brother and will be trying a different pair for backpacking. ... show more

  • Nice shoe
I saw these on a trip to Switzerland but purchased them on Amazon later on. They fit nicely, are breathable, have a nice grippy Vibram sole, and I love the bright orange color. I've had these since August 2019 and have warn them a lot for walks around the neighborhood and some light hiking. They are comfortable and supportive. I like the rubber enclosed toe box. ... show more

  • Good “fashion”, not hiking...
Size: 12.5 Color: Spicy Orange
Way, way too small. I usually wear size 11.5-12 (46.5 EU), D (Medium) in all of my shoes. I ordered a size 12 and it did not fit. When I tried these, they were way to tight. I would have needed to buy either a size 12.5 or 13 bigger. They’ll work for you, as long as you have tiny feet and that you’re into “fashion”, not hiking... ... show more

  • Above average hiking shoe
I love these shoes. They are rock climbers but serve well as hikers. They grip all terrain extremely well. They are very comfortable and fit true to form. They do favor a medium width nicely also. There is ample arch support and room for adding orthotics like I did. I highly recommend these shoes. I’m thinking about buying another pair to have on hand when theses are retired. ... show more
