  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Still not sure...
Color: Blue
I recently bought a car that did not have a key fob. Thinking I could avoid going to a Dealership and paying $250 to $300 (on average), I began to do some research myself to find that I could buy the key, then take it to a Locksmith to have it cut. The downside: I heard this from more than 1 Locksmith (I called several), that they will not guarantee that it works for your car after they program/cut it. Reason being, they will tell you that it is an "after market" key and that there are those that will produce these keys inexpensively but it may not work. Either way, the Locksmith will tell you that you will still be charged the fee to cut it, even if it doesn't work for your car after the fact. Is that a chance you want to take? Or, your other option is to purchase the key from them (which is definitely more, mine was $100), and this they will guarantee. So, out the door, it costs me $165 for the Key & the programming. I have yet to try this key...not sure if I want to take the chance or return it. Just something you might want to know before you go this route. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars NOT as good as OEM, but they work and that's okay for the money.
Color: Black
I had no problem programming the key, but getting it cut correctly was a little bit of a hassle. Make sure you have the car with you so that you can test it right away. Find an old style hardware store (just not ACE, they wouldn't do it unless I bought their $60 key) and get the key cut on a manual cutter. It does not have near the range of an OEM key. I have to be right next to the vehicle for it to operate the lock. Sometimes I have to hit it a couple of times to get it to work. Be careful with the key. I dropped mine when pulling them out of my pocket (which I've done hundreds of times with my OEM keys) and the case came open. The two halves went opposite directions, the battery rolled under my car and the chip fell out. I put it all back together and it worked fine, but they should really try to make it snap together more securely like the OEM keys. I may put a drop of RTV sealant to make sure this doesn't happen again. That way I can still open it to replace the battery. UPDATE 11/28/16- Key was coming apart pretty regularly (Even when hanging in the ignition). I have now sealed the entire case except for the wide slot where you open it with Black RTV sealant. It appears to have sealed it well and I don't anticipate any more issues. Shouldn't have to do this if it was a better design. The OEM key has a small screw that holds the case together, but this one does not. ... show more

Very nice key. Had a little trouble finding someone too cut them. My usual store Lowes wouldn't cut them for me saying that since they were not purchased from their store policy forbid it. I was basically blown off. He had excuses why he couldn't cut them. In his book it showed all Jeeps except the Commander. Jeeps use die number 19 btw. Called a local Lock Smith and b2e wanted $50 per key to cut them. Lol... Went across the street to Home Depot and they cut them for me for free. They were great... Kind of sad..I've been a loyal Lowes fan and have spent lots of money there. I called Lowes and asked for management telling them its sad they lost a good customer over a 3 minute job. I will be going too Home Depot now. Btw the I did programming myself and it went smooth. You must already have two working keys though. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars No "bad" surprises
Color: Red
I needed a new key fob for my vehicle BADLY! So badly, that I was unable to start my car because of the missing (but necessary), peices of my old, broken fob. I also appreciate that I got to choose a different color fob, as black is the "normal" color, and I sometimes like to stand out :) This key fob comes equipped with the "guts," so, I wasn't inconvenienced in needing to purchase separate software for remote-to-car recognition. Since this is my very first time purchasing a new key fob, I thought that I would need to transfer the guts from my old fob into this one, but I didn't need to. ... show more
