Features

  • PERFECT For FINESSE FISHING - Weighing in at an ultra-light 4.5 ounces, the Kestrel Baitcasting Reel combines feather-light design with rigid performance. The carbon fiber frame and side covers empower anglers to effortlessly cast lightweight baits with extended accuracy, virtually eliminating backlashes. The Palm Perfect Design at 37.5mm ensures a comfortable fishing experience all day long.
  • SHALLOW SPOOL MASTERY - The Kestrel features an ultra-lightweight shallow feather spool weighing only 5.6 grams. This micro-spool excels at handling smaller diameter lines, perfect for finesse fishing. With minimal effort, the shallow spool accelerates swiftly, enabling anglers to effectively cast lures down to an impressive 1/32 oz.
  • FINESSE -OPTIMIZED BRAKING - The FAF (Flyout Arc Finesse) Braking system was designed specifically for finesse fishing. Two half-ring magnetic brakes automatically adjust to slow down the spool when braking is needed to prevent backlashes. As the speed of the spool decreases, the magnetic field inside the spool diminishes and the magnets retract to maximize casting distance. There is also an external fingertip brake adjustment dial for fine tuning spool speeds for smaller baits.
  • SMOOTH And FAST PRECISION - Indulge in an unmatched smooth retrieve with 11+1 MaxiDur Double Shielded Stainless Steel Ball Bearings. Unleash the extraordinary performance of the 7.5:1 and 8.4:1 high-speed gear ratio, a testament to durability with precision-crafted aluminum main gear, brass pinion gear, and aluminum main gear shaft. This Baitcasting reel seamlessly blends smoothness and speed for an exceptional angling experience that stands the test of time.
  • IMPRESSIVE POWER And CastabILITY - The patented LFTV (Low Friction Tapered Vortex) Line Guide decreases the angle at which the line enters the guide, limiting friction during casts. A straighter line and reduced friction result in fewer backlashes and greater distance on casts, both of which are qualities highly desirable among serious finesse anglers. Experience up to 12 lbs of smooth drag that provides plenty of fish-stopping power and the audible drag clicker also gives you feedback.

  • Great BFS reel for the $
Style: A: Right Handed - 8.4:1
I have numerous other bait finesse casting reels and some that cost much more $ than this Kastking Kestrel BFS 2024 reel. I must say, this reel is impressive for the price point and has been a pleasure to fish with...mostly. I have one minor issue, but others may not have the same issue with these reels that I have had. The reel is very light and ergonomically it feels just amazing in my hand and it is a very smooth casting reel and has plenty of drag to fight larger fish and a real good looking reel too. However, due to the position of the external break dial on the reel and due to the way that I prefer to palm the reel I have noticed that in my particular case after I reel in and land a fish that my palm is turning the break dial and it tends to turn the dial which lowers the break setting to where the spool will speed up on the next cast and it has caused backlashing and line fluffing. I didn't figure the issue out right away so now after I reel in a fish I have to check at the external break dial and make sure it is on the same setting I had it on before and if it happened to turn the break dial and lower the break setting then I must readjust it to where I had it previously. Kind of a pain to have to check it as often as I have to now but otherwise it is a fantastic BFS reel and it can easily cast 1/16 oz jigs with 2 inch curly tail grub trailers and 1/8 finesse crankbaits 25 plus yards. I have landed several 1.5 to 2 + lbs bass with no problems at all. I have it paired up on a Handing Magic L ultralight 6 ft casting rod and it is a magical pairing in my opinion for BFS! I love fishing with this setup. You can get this rod on Amazon for under $40 and it is high quality and a beautiful looking rod too. I highly recommend both products. If you're still riding the fence on getting into to BFS game or you're just now getting into bait finesse fishing with a casting reel and you don't want to spend a lot then this reel is perfect. You can't go wrong. Good luck and land a big one!!! :-) ... show more

  • Amazing Reel
Style: A: Left Handed - 8.4:1
This is my first real Baitcasting reel. it comes in a really nice looking box. KastKing does not scrimp on quality on everything. Inside the box is the reel, a manual, a KastKing Sticker and stickers for line notes. Shipping was super fast. I ordered in the morning and I received the reel that evening. The reel is really sleek looking. It is very light, weighing in at 4.5 ounces. it fits right in the palm of your hand. I got the left handed reel as I am used to a spinning reel and the left handed retrieve feels more normal for me. I got the higher speed 8.4:1 and that should handle lure you choose to throw. It has a carbon fiber frame. The reel has up to 12lbs of Drag. The reel is easy to cast. I am still learning how to fish with a Baitcaster reel. I did not get any backlash. It will take some getting used to but once I learn how this will be a great reel for any level of fisherman. If you are looking for a great reel that will handle anything you throw at it then check out the Kestrel Finesse Baitcasting Reel. ... show more

  • Updated Review (2 stars to 5 stars) -- this reel is excellent!
Style: B: Left Handed - 7.5:1
Updated Review: After submitting my original review, KastKing contacted me and suggested that I try the reel again. I am so glad they made this suggestion, and so glad that I did try it again. I must have just gotten a defective one the first time, because this reel is actually amazing. The casting is actually excellent and I am able to easily throw 1/32oz (or even lighter) without issue now. The retrieve is smooth, the fit/finish is tight with little to no movement on the spool, knobs, or anywhere else it shouldn't. Most importantly, the braking is excellent and easy to set up for a variety of lure weights. It's an absolute pleasure to fish. I was wondering why my opinion of this reel was so off from most others, but I think it's safe to assume that my first reel was just somehow the rare defect, because few others share my first opinion of this reel. It's a really nice confirmation of sanity to have this corrected because I own and really like about 1/2 dozen other KastKing reels and really enjoy them. Sorry for the misleading first review! I'm happy to be wrong. --------------------------------- Original Review: Directly comparing this reel (which is the highest priced of the bunch) to KastKing Zephyr BFS, Soloking Acura HICC-50, and Soloking GKA 200 King Archer, I'm sorry to report that this reel would come in a distant last place. The reel is tremendously over-braked (even though this version was supposed to solve that) and I'm barely able to cast 1/16oz on it (and definitely not 1/32oz as advertised). All three of the reels mentioned above (at 1/2 to 1/3 the price) perform much better! I don't recommend wasting your time or money on this one. ... show more

  • The vallent eagle II.. I mean kestrel.
Style: B: Left Handed - 7.5:1
The media could not be loaded. Let’s just call it what it is.. This is the Vallent Eagle II with an new paint job and name. It’s the exact specs. It extremely over braked to be casting 1/32. Unless you plan on taking some of the brakes out it’s more of a “Power” BFS reel. I have it next to my of BFS reels. Shimano curado with RORO DIY spool and bearings, stock shimano SLX and a stock Kastking Zypher. The Zypher spins the longest and is able to cast 1/32 with ease. The “Kestrel” is just a rebranded Vallent Eagle II with a higher price tag.. ... show more

  • Good things come in small packages.
Style: A: Left Handed - 8.4:1
At first glance this reel is very well made. Fits perfect in the palm. It is also super lightweight coming in at 4.5 oz. Nice audible drag clicks and the spool release is crisp. Reeling action is extremely smooth. Compared to other Kastking bait casters this finesse reel is exactly that a finesse reel. Have not spooled it up yet but planning on using the KASTKING MONOFILAMENT 10lb in black. Stay tuned for review on casting and brake functions. I would recommend to add this to your fishing arsenal. ... show more

  • Great purchase
Style: A: Right Handed - 8.4:1
Love this reel! Casts small baits with ease and the braking system is very solid. My sons have started learning how to use casting gear recently and are loving this reel. Have purchased a couple more since the first.
