It sounds almost like a music box and the tuning process is simple - it took me around thirty minutes to properly tune my kalimba, but when I was done I felt super accomplished and was fascinated with the sounds of each note. The book included comes with instructions on how to play two songs, but I personally would recommend looking up what you want to learn to play online. Avatar's Love is a pretty common kalimba song and is very simple and beginner friendly. This instrument is fantastic for people who may never have played an instrument before. It is easy to learn and to play, and enjoyable to practice. The instrument is quiet enough not to bother your neighbors if you live in an apartment and loud enough to play for a room of people at the same time. The blue color is very pretty and easy to clean. It does not get dirty easily. The keys do need to be cleaned; the wipe provided in the bag is pretty much good enough to do so. I would fully recommend this product. I have anxiety and ADHD and wanted to see if it would help, but the sounds the kalimba makes are extremely calming and satisfying. The blue color is off from the product picture. Product picture shows a dark blue while the real product is a lighter, more turquoise blue. I have very minimum experience with intructments. Took me about an hour from opening the box, tuning, and then learned to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. So definitely not ready to play right out of the box but also not difficult to learn. This is a very quiet instrument. You can hear the sound within one room if it's quiet. Contradictory to what the product description says, I wouldn't count on it to be heard at loud friends gathering or bonfire party. It's about as loud as a xylophone, less loud than a harmonica or an ukulele. ... show more

I love this Kalimba! It is an easy learning curve even for a novice like me. It came in good time and in tune. I have purchased a couple of song books as well and have really enjoyed singing and playing. I found this to be a great gift. Not only for myself for a friend as well. The smiles were real. I got my Kalimba in the mail and it was obviously used and not cleaned. There was finger prints all over the keys and gunk built up on it.

I love this thing! I had never even heard of the kalimba until it popped up on an ad one day. I was pretty intrigued and decided to give it a go. I’ve had it for less than 3 weeks and already learned quite a few songs. It’s super fun and easy to pick up. I just watched some YouTube tutorials and started playing. It truly is a no brainer. Easy to play and tune. I was worried that the tuning part would end up with me hammering this instrument to its death, but it was surprisingly easy. Soft taps are key. My 12 year old loves music and loves trying out the "not so mainstream" instruments. She loves this! She is a quick learner and had two songs memorized the first day she received her kalimba. The instrument came in a nice packaging and was completely in tune when it arrived. The sound quality is beautiful and soothing. It has more of a "smooth" sound in comparison to her acrilic kalimba. I was concerned about the quality due to the rather low cost. It did not disappoint! I say go for it, even if you have no musical ability and can't read music (like me) you can still make some beautiful sounds by just plucking the tines. I find it extremely relaxing and truly helps to ease my anxiety when I sit down and just listen to the sounds. The only thing I will say is that it does not come with a hard case, if you plan on leaving it home the bag is just fine. If you want to take it anywhere I strongly suggest purchasing a hard case to keep it from damage to the tines. ... show more

Purchased for my daughters 13th birthday. She asked for one specifically. They come in many various colors, shapes & prices. This one fell in the middle price range. It came with all the accessories you need to get started playing. My daughter was playing recognizable music in an hour. It is fun to play with and relaxing. I enjoy the sound of the music it makes. She has been learning flute for about a year and I would much rather listen to her practice the Kalimba- lol It arrived quickly. The box it comes in is decent enough to give as is for a gift. I recommend it for anyone who wants to try to play an instrument. Even if you just want to play around it sounds pretty. We chose a beautiful blue color wood. I am very satisfied with the quality.
