  • Amazing subwoofer to pair with JBL 308s! Must have if you're producing with a lot of sub bass.
Style: Subwoofer
I got mine for 25% off refurbished/used. I had a presonus monitor subwoofer before this and it just wasn't hitting the lows the way I wanted, rattled at low volumes even. I was actually thinking of returning it because I realized I impulsively bought this thing when I already have a sub. Once I plugged it in to at least try it, I knew I couldn't go back to the presonus. If you only have TRS cables you'll need to get an adapter for the output channels (XLR to TRW) . Input works with TRS or XLR. I have a pair of Jbl308 monitor speakers with my setup and these are the perfect pair and how it was meant to be. The crossover sounds so damn smooth after adjusting the boundary EQ accordingly. With those speakers the low pass on the subwoofer set to the lowest (80hz I believe) sounds best. The subwoofer works as a pre amp for the other monitor speakers. As soon as I swapped the presonus sub with this one immediately saw a HUGE difference with my jbl 308 monitor pair. It was much much clearer and louder. I did not even realize how much the presonus was diminishing the capabilities of the other monitor speakers in my setup. I am producing dubstep/edm and music where sub bass is very important and I need to hear the lowest lows without distortion or rattle. this thing has made it so much nicer to work on it. You can truly hear the sub bass very very clearly, allowing me to adjust the sub bass and add subtle textures/harmonics and really be able to mix/master and do sound design with ease especially with long sustainer sub basslines. Kicks sound absolutely amazing well. Before with the presonus I didn't get a real good feel for how percussion/kicks sounded... But with this you can really hear the subtle differences. I was worried it'd be too big to go under my desk but it fits better than the 8" presonus thanks to the higher placement of cable ports. No matter what you're making these are amazing speakers, but I think if you're making rnb or edm especially music with long sustained bass that needs to be sidechained with kicks, and fine tuned these are a must have. Don't go with a cheaper option, this is worth the extra money easily. ... show more

  • Excellent design
Style: Subwoofer
JBL makes excellent studio monitors. The LSR310S sub is the missing component for a professional sound. The sub frees up the monitors to enhance the mid's and pass the low frequency duties on to the sub.

  • Pairs Perfectly with Yamaha HS8 Setup
Style: Subwoofer
It took me a few minutes to dial in the JBL, but once I figured that out it sounds smooth and complimented my setup perfectly. I'm not sure why anyone in a studio setting would want to use anything but the 80hz crossover. It had PLENTY of power, in fact, it's set to about 55 percent power to balance out with my studio monitors. Folks that say it doesn't have enough power need to turn down the gain of their monitors. The whole idea of a studio sub is not to blow you away (which this can certainly do) but rather to compliment (extend the frequency range of) the monitors. It does this very well. If you don't use this balance, your mixes will not be accurate may result in them being low-frequency deprived. I can easily switch between sub + crossovered monitors to monitors with no crossover with my Mackie 1642VLZ4 mixer. I just use a subgroup output to isolate my monitors without the sub. What makes this possible is that the HS8 monitors have 2 inputs, so your miles may vary. When dialing your sub in, remember that "less is more." I've found this to be true in just about every facet of life. Happy Mixing. ... show more

  • Great low freq for the price
Style: Subwoofer
I have some expensive studio monitors because I work in audio post dor film and television. They are reallg great sounding and I love them. I always wanted to buy the matching subwoofer but that is $1,500 and although I'd love to splurge on that....I couldn't see myself doing that. I needed a sub to help give me a better idea of where my sound FX were as far as heaviness in lower frequency. Saw this JBL for sale and for a 10" downward firing sub, this thing hits! For $299, it's a steal for what I needed/wanted. I will say that because Spotify and YouTube compress their audio, you won't get great sounding stuff. It still sounds good but overall, when I am working on a film for instance, I am using great audio, uncompressed....which really makes my speakers bounce haha. Get this if you need some bass. It has a "club-sounding" X-over (which is basically the middle position) which will give you a lot more bass, BUT.....it's muddy and not desirable for my taste. I ALWAYS set my X-over to 80hz. Sounds much better. ... show more

  • Great sub for Hip Hop, EDM, or other bass heavy music production
Style: Subwoofer
I have been using the JBL LSR310S sub for a couple of full days now so this is more of a first impressions review. I am using this sub with two KRK Rockit 8s. I decided to go with this sub instead of the KRK 10s because I wanted something that could produce lower notes better. The KRK only goes down to 34Hz and this one goes all the way down to 20Hz. If you set this JBL sub's crossover to the XLF (extended low frequency) mode it definitely dips down very low. It hits notes cleanly that I'm more used to hearing out of 12" or even 15" subs. I've been really impressed with it so far. It is plenty loud to balance out the Rockit 8s which have a lot of headroom to be turned up very loud without distortion. Also for reference the room I'm using the set up in is 10'x14'. Pros: Hits very low notes cleanly in XLF mode. Virtually no port noise. Fairly small footprint. Cons: Wish it had a bypass switch like the KRK 10s and some of the others. Overall: If you are producing Hip Hop or Electronic music with a lot of bass this is a great sub. If you mostly do rock or other music that is not as bass heavy you will probably still like it but won't really use the extended range capabilities of this sub. ... show more
