Jason Flaxseed Hi-Shine Styling Gel provides salon quality texture, shape and shine to all hair types. I am looking for a product to properly coat my long, natural curl/wavy, someone naturally frizzy hair. I need to replace my longtime favorite Garnier Nutrisse super spikes since it's dico'd. This works good for day 1 but doesn't really stick around for day 2. I put my hair in a bun and go another day sometimes 2 w/o washing and the spray water bottle doesn't really work to refresh it like my old favorite. I haven’t tried this on it’s own yet, as I use gel as a second step, in combo with stying cream for my thick, curly hair. But this does exactly what I expect, and was hoping for. I previously was very happy with the ‘everyone hair gel’ in the orange container, but that was discontinued, and all other natural gels I’ve tried have failed for a variety of reasons. Listen! Im telling you I have been searching for a gel for my edges because I have natural locs, and I hate gels that leave that nasty build after applying it. I love the way it enhances a shiny curl affect and lays my hair down just like I want it, Its hard to explain the look Ive been wanting , but it gives it!!!!!! The creator of this product is a genius and has figured out a way to not leave a build up, No matter how much I apply and I can be very heavy handed, it does not leave a white residue!!!!! It seems like all of my allergies are getting worse as I get older. I've been using the same gels from Kenra (17-firm) and Paul Mitchell (Red - strong hold and Purple- extra body) forever. But, I've been getting patches of blistery skin around my eyes which don't tend to appear when I don't use gel. So, I figured I'd try something with fewer chemicals. The culprit was suggested to be Triethanolamine - found in all 3 gels mentioned above. This is not in Jason's product. I'm not a chemist, but the most active ingredient in Jason seems to be Methacryloyl Ethyl Betaine/Acrylates Copolymer, which is listed as a "hair fixing" agent of low/no toxicity & no allergies (you can google it and it comes up in many cosmetic databases), unlike Triethanolamine which is only a pH adjusting agent but may cause allergic reactions. I have not had any dermatitis issues in the 1-month since I have started using this gel. The gel performs very well, especially considering it's extremely affordable price and natural formula. My hair type is medium-to-thin thickness and chemically straightened (barely - we leave it on 5 minutes just to make styling easier). The gel is sticky like Sebastian Gel Forte, which is the only negative - but whatever. I just wash my hands anyway. It controls frizz well. It holds stronger than Paul Mitchell firm (red bottle) and Kenra-17. This may be too strong for some people, but it depends on your hair type and preference. I can sometimes be bothered by scents quite badly (my hair stylist once used some pomade on me that required a shower, washing my sofa cushion, and washing out my nose to get rid of). That situation was unusual - but it gives you an idea how much I hate certain scents. Jason is nothing like that. It's pretty neutral. It sort of has a fruity & lightly floral smell...almost grape-like? It's so hard to explain but it is mild to me. It's totally worth a try, especially given the reasonable price. ... show more

as I age my hair texture has changed. I have long hair that breaks easily, leaving short hairs on the sides (near temple) sticking straight out and tickling my ears. Jason Styling Gel tames them and they lay flat on my head.
