Description

Introducing the MAK 150m! iOptron's first premium Maksutov-Cassegrain OTA. You have to try it to believe it! The iOptron Rumak-type 150m Maksutov-Cassegrain is perfect for the serious amateur astronomer who wants apochromatic refractor-type performance at an affordable price. In fact the multicoated optics provide almost similar results as a 5-inch apochromatic refractor -- at a fraction of the cost. You will be amazed at the images you'll see with the MAK 150m—surprisingly an f12 that can view Jupiter's cloud bands and also M31! The precision design and engineering of the optics produces images you would not expect in such a light tube. The MAK 150m from iOptron is the only MAK of its kind that comes with a dual speed focuser for fine-tuning your images. Also included is an attachable dew shield—rare for a MAK—for better performance in cold temperatures. • Fantastic Rumak Type Mak telescope, rivals APOs costing 3x or more. Built like a tank
Was skeptical to buy this as it has practically no reviews on the internet barring one or two. While iOptron themselves are well known for their super robust and silent mounts, not much is available on their telescope side of business. That said, this scope differs from other Mak-Cass type OTAs. This is based on a different design which supposedly gives this telescope a near APO refractor like optical quality. I had an issue when iOptron shipped this with a faulty dual speed focuser, but they quickly resolved the issue shipping a good one and I shipped back the faulty one back to them. So lost about 10 days in this process before I could test it. So use it only twice so far for about 90 minute periods for visual observations. Once the scope is acclimated to the outside conditions, the quality is super sharp. Got good views of Venus, Mars, Orion, Capella, Procyon, Castor A ( double and clear separation seen ) basically whatever is there in Mid April northern sky after 8 pm. First seeing it was bit blurry and I was worried, but realized that this scope needs atleast 2 hours to cool down / normalize to outside temperatures. So keep this in mind. The new focuser is super smooth and the 10x is great for fine adjustments. It’s the only Mak to offer dual speed focuser. Comes with a solid metal dew shield , again only Mak OTA to come with one, 2 inch adapter for SCT accessories etc. Also comes with a 50 mm finder scope, it is okay / functional, but have an issue with the base it comes with, it is not well designed ( has a single screw) to hold it and does not sit square with the main tube and has bit of a play. This I found to be annoying as centering an object using this , does not have the main OTA centered. Looking for some fixes here. Overall it’s a good scope, if you are going to be little patient with it like all Maks to get the best out of it. Oh BTW, the collimating is rock solid and does not change at all unlike some of the SCTs I have used. ... show more
