  • Hatched our first Serama Bantam eggs successfully!
The media could not be loaded. I specifically chose this incubator for the humidity drawer at the bottom. It makes it super easy to clean and refill. I decided to keep the packaging styrofoam on it, since the shape allowed for full use of the machine. It seems to work well like this, I might experiment with it in the future. I did have one chick suffocate and I’m wondering if that’s due to my use of the styrofoam? It’s entirely possible that was user error. After that I was very careful to remove the chicks as they hatched and tuck them into a warm brooder. It proved very user friendly, but I am unsure how to reset the day count. It’s not an entirely necessary feature, I just mark my calendar for expected hatch dates. The temps maintained consistency and reheated within minutes whenever I would open briefly. It beeps if it drops, but you push any button and it stops the alarm. It also beeps if the humidity is low. It’s easy to pull the drawer out and pour more in with pretty much any container. I used a mason jar. The egg turner works well, I almost installed it wrong but saw the error in the instructions. It’s such a nice little buy and super excited for my homestead. Not as tempted to buy baby chicks from tractor supply anymore. I’ll be adding another one of the same model in the future to accommodate larger batches for customers. Super affordable and happy with the quality. Note: The chicks in the photos are Seramas, world’s smallest breed of chicken. They are not a good reference of incubator size, as these chicken eggs are less than half the size of a normal chicken egg. Update: we have hatched out 2 successful batches of chicks so far. We have sold the chicks and made back what we paid and enough to buy a second. For our Seramas, we only had one male out of 20 chicks and we are starting to believe the old wives tale about incubation temp affecting gender. We kept it at 100F and high humidity the whole time (I know others do it differently, but we’ve had success with this method). We set a shallow pencil tray to hatch out mature eggs while other younger batches are still being turned. This keeps the newly hatched chicks relatively safe from the automated turning tray, but we still check regularly, as they can hop out once they are strong enough. We plan on having multiple of these incubators as opposed to one large one, so that we can have better flexibility in settings and they are more easily replaced. ... show more

  • Good and useable, but temperature not accurate.
I just got this yesterday, and plugged it in and got it going so it could stabilize overnight. Right away, I could tell there was a discrepancy between what the incubator says is the temperature versus what the actual temperature inside the incubator is. I ended up putting three of my different, correctly calibrated digital thermometer / hygrometer skin, and it confirmed my suspicions. I am still going to use the thank you better because I can adjust the temperature manually, and go off of my other thermometers inside, to get the temperature I need. I wish it wasn't necessary, but because this is the kind of incubator I really wanted to get, and it had a decent price, I'm willing to make the necessary adjustments on my own. For under $50, it's not bad. But unless you have an accurate digital thermometer inside, you are likely going to cook your eggs instead of just incubating them. This particular incubator seems to be about 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit hotter than the incubator display shows. Humidity display seems accurate. All three of my personal digital thermometer hygrometer combo units are registering 70% humidity, as is the incubator itself. Is it usable? Yes, with some modifications potentially. If you purchase this, make sure that you have it well ahead of when you actually need it, to make sure it is stabilized and to make any adjustments necessary. You also must have your own additional digital thermometer / hygrometer to make sure that you will have an accurate temperature, because likely you will have the same issue as I do with an inaccurate incubator reading. I'm giving it four stars because it is the size and layout that I want, but definitely taking away a full star because of the inaccuracy / overheating issue. I probably should take away two stars, but I don't really want to discourage someone from purchasing it because you can make it work with some additional add-ons. I hope that makes sense. ... show more

My child's school friends recently hatched chickens, and he wanted to do the same. We found and purchased this incubator, which has surpassed my expectations. The sturdy build quality, along with its automatic features and precise control over the hatching environment, have made the incubation process nearly effortless. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Works ok, BUT…
I hatched quail in this. You must add water everyday. BUT only a tiny amount in the middle tray. DO NOT fill it up like the instructions say or the humidity will skyrocket. I had to dump some out everyday because I couldn’t get it right at first. The sides have fans in 2 places inside. I had to cull 3 chicks because they got their legs in there and it broke them. It was a bloody mess and chopped up body parts. You must put something over the vents but don’t block them completely since it’s the air flow. I think on my next hatch I will put cabinet liner on the bottom so they don’t get their legs/feet stuck in the holes in the floor. Overall, if you make a few adjustments this hatches pretty well. And it was less expensive than some of those name brand ones. I’ve had most of those and this one works just as well. Plus, chicks don’t fall out when you lift the lid because it has a nice lip around it. I’d recommend it ONLY after making those changes. ... show more
