I've been keeping bees for 40 years and never felt the need for a refractometer but after moving to a new state and bees are working different plants the extracted honey seemed to be not as dense. Refractometer showed an appropriate moisture level so no need for concern.

I use mine for testing water content in honey as well as maple syrup brix during the boil. Easy to read, easy to clean between uses. The only improvement to offer is a glass or heat resistant eye dropper - the included dropper doesn't clean well or stand up to high temps

I've had an apiary for several years. I've always wondered if there was a way to check moisture content in my honey. I've never had any of my honey ferment but I don't want to take a chance with such a precious resource. After some study, I leaned about refractometers. I assumed these would be pricey but was AMAZED that this one was so inexpensive! Shipment arrived three days after ordering. I had just harvested some honey and tested it after calibrating per the instructions that came with my refractometer. I was dead on 18% moisture and couldn't be more pleased! Easy to use.
