Description

Herm Sprenger Chrome Plated Training Collar with Quick Release features HS Scissor Snap that allows fast release of the dog. Herm Sprenger training collars are designed so pressure is spread evenly around the dog’s neck. The ends of the links are carefully rounded to provide safe correction. Herm Sprenger Training Collars are manufactured in Germany from the finest quality of materials and craftsmanship. The snap also enables the collar to be easily fastened around the neck. The collar must be fitted correctly in order to work properly, fitting just below the dog’s ears. Links may be added or removed to make a comfortable snug fit. Attach the lead to the "D” ring at the top of the collar. These Quick Release collars are available in 4 sizes: Small 2.25mm, 16” neck, maximum weight 44 lbs; Medium 3.0mm, 21” neck, maximum weight 88 lbs; Large 3.2mm, 23” neck, maximum weight 88 lbs; Extra Large 4.0mm, 24” neck, maximum weight 154 lbs. All collars have a limited guarantee against breakage, tarnish or rust.

We have had these in several sizes as we have owned two Great Danes over the last 18 years. They are German crafted and great for training your dogs. If you have a dog that is hard to walk because they are always pulling on the leash, these will fix that. They do not hurt the dog. The prongs are blunt with rounded edges. It just puts even pressure around their neck if they pull. Definitely necessary when your 120 lb GF is walking a 145 lb Dane! Unfortunately, the 3.2mm was the wrong size for my 145 lb Great Dane. We sent that one back and got the 4.0mm version. It works GREAT! ... show more

    • sturdy, easy to fit correct size, and does the job

i was pretty hesitant about getting a prong collar but after doing some research, i found out how effective they truly are. so i decided to give it a shot with my 9 month old pitbull. it took him a minute to get used to me even putting it on but once we got through that phase, he quickly learned that pulling or jumping on people was a no go. he doesn’t seem to like it all that much but definitely understands its purpose. we walk side by side on the leash with no problem now. although sometimes he does not want to come in after a walk and will sit there and whine, but a quick and firm jerk of with the collar with the command “let’s go” seems to do the trick. overall this is a great training tool but should not be used if a dog isn’t responding to it. also, if it’s too big, the links are super easy to take off and adjust the size of it. ... show more

    • Works like a charm
It looks so scary and I was apprehensive about it at first, but after doing lots of research and trying it myself, it worked wonders on our German Shepherd Dog. Even using the dead ring (leash connected to both big rings at the same time, which is how you should start), it works perfectly and the prongs are rounded and safe, so they're not going to pierce anything or break the skin. It's SOOO much better and safer than when our dog was literally choking and gagging himself by pulling with all his (considerable) strength against his neck with a normal collar or slip collar and likely damaging his throat. He stopped pulling immediately, so the prongs became immediately irrelevant, anyway. Now he walks down the street like an angel and I get endless comments about what a great dog he is. It's also great for training around the house to not chew on or get into things he shouldn't. Be sure to research the proper way to fit a prong collar before using. There are sites and videos available that instruct you on this. It doesn't really come with any real instructions. A lot of people try to put it over a dog's head like a slip chain collar and that's totally wrong and causes it to hang loosely down by the shoulders. You have to disconnect a link (by squeezing) and put it on that way. Also, when you first get this, be sure to remove enough links to you get a snug fit so it stays high on the neck and not down by the shoulders. Other advice: if you have a dangerously aggressive dog, you should use a backup leash/collar just in case the prong collar ever gets disconnected somehow. It's more likely with the quick-release type prong collars which I wouldn't recommend for a really vicious dog. Edit: Forgot to mention that I received several recommendations for this particular brand of prong collar and I'm very happy with it. It is well made and solid and good for a fairly large dog. Very heavy gauge wire that's smooth and rounded tips, so it's definitely not going to hurt your dog or break the skin. Also, you can gradually wean your dog off the prong collar after it gets into the habit of walking properly by simply switching the leash between the prong collar and his normal collar. The normal collar is always on to hold any tags and so forth. If he starts pulling, it's very easy to switch back. You don't want to teach your dog that it's ok to pull with a normal collar. Once you have your dog properly retrained, you shouldn't really need the prong collar any more in most cases. ... show more

    • Helped my dog’s pulling

I have a large female Rottweiler, who pulls quite hard on leash before we had a honest that she would just lean her bodyweight on so instead we decide to try out this. We were worried about the pain and the discomfort with the collar but after you use pain seems to be minimal and we checked her neck for scratches and saw a little. We been using it for about six months now and we noticed a difference almost the first week she can realize she wasn’t able to pull out before because she got penalized with the discomfort of the collar. I like the two options you have with the leash, the one being kind of a slip collar leash, and the other being the just traditional collar. I found the slip collar good in extreme circumstances, but didn’t like how it was easier for it to tighten then loosen up; for example, the chain bunches up and I don’t like how it chokes my dog. But everybody’s dog is different and just be careful. I found the regular loop very nice and really just feel like she understands her boundaries with the leash and collar. TLDR: great product, the two loops are nice, the one is a little over kill for me. Durable too, and my dogs excited to see me pick it up ... show more

Not sure why, but the collar has spontaneously disconnected while walking the dog. I would say this is too easy to remove.
