  • A lot harder than I thought it would be.
Size: 24inch
The product is well made. The product is strong, I like them and there is nothing wrong with the construction of the item. My problem is that they're a bad idea. It looks like it would be a lot simpler than getting an auger, making a huge hole only to fill the hole with cement, but it's a lot of work. These are not simple, and it's very easy to make a mistake, causing you to dig the thing out and now you've got a huge hole. When you hammer them in, if you don't hit exactly center, they'll spin. So you have to hammer a few blows, check for level, check to make sure it's square, then take a few more swings, but then it gets to a point where it's not in yet, but it's not level or square and you can't turn or move it any longer. At that point it gets very difficult to get them back out of the ground. To me it's not a time saver and is just as much work if not more than the traditional hole and cement. So if you buy enough of these to build a fence, you're right up there in the cost of an electric auger. Which seems excessive since you'll probably not need the auger after you get your project built right? They've got an auger here on amazon for about $200, and you can sell it on craigslist and get some of your money back. I bought twelve of these for about $240. These you've got to hammer into the ground, and I don't know about your area but in mine it's not easy. Two of them went in, hit a rock and then bent so I couldn't get it all the way down to the ground, that isn't the fault of these, but that I live in an area with a lot of rocks. I can't stress more that you have to be very careful putting these in. If you don't get it in straight, and it is turned so the face of your 4x4 isn't flush, or it's not level -- your only hope is to dig this thing out and try again. ... show more

  • Not sturdy enough for privacy fence, lesson learned . Do not use for fences or gates
Size: 32inch
We fenced our large yard with 6 foot privacy fence, and it was fine until we got 50 mph winds just a few months later, and there goes the fence. It was definitely a more economical way than digging and cementing the posts, it was even approved by our city to use, but now our fence is braced up by 2x4s until we can remove the entire fence and redo it properly. Seeing as to there's about 50 to do, I'm dreading it. These were also tight on a 4x4 post, some arrived damaged (the square part was pinched too tight) and we needed to sand posts to fit. Also we still needed a special post driver to fit over the 4x4 post to pound these in. In the long run it's costing me more in both time and money, we should have just went with the cement in the first place. Use with caution if you ever get high winds. May be fine for other projects like pergolas, or archways, but i do not recommend in any way for a privacy fence, and not for gates at all. ... show more

  • Worked for me
Size: 36inch
Ordered 8 of the 36 inch which is the longest and they worked great for my patio privacy enclosure I created. I needed something deep enough to pass our high wind test and it has passed. However, I would not recommend using for a solid 6-foot fence due to being too top-heavy with no airflow going through during winds and snapping the welded top of the post where the 4x4 sits. I would only use cemented in-the-ground posts for that. I have seen a few reviews where that failed for a couple of people. These are pretty durable but I think work best with fences that allow enough airflow. I would also recommend watching a couple of Youtube videos on pounding these in using at least an 8-pound sledgehammer. They helped me out a lot. ... show more

  • Works great!
Size: 32inch
Surprisingly easy to pound in for this middle-aged lady! So much better than trying to dig around a bunch of tree roots. We have very high winds here, so I spaced them about 4 feet apart, and nothing even wiggles. Solid stuff, totally recommend!

  • Get extras
Size: 24inch
As others have mentioned, they twist some. We found it helpful to start the hole with a metal pole. But they hold my fence up well! Word to the wise...get extras. We had 3 break when they hit rocks. You could hear the snap and the spike part was mostly detached from the top.

These were perfect for what I ordered the for. They went into the ground easily when using a 4x4 and a mallet. Will be getting more soon.
