  • Easy setup, If use Google support
Style: 3-Pack
Once I got the wifi up and running it was great. Connection is strong and getting fast download speeds throughout the home on wifi which was surprising. Each pod has a lan port which is nice. I have two PCs that I connect through lan cable instead of wifi, and it works well. I got an open box unit so I was a bit nervous. My box did not come with instructions, so I had to search online for guidance. I was able to connect one pod to ISP modem after a little mingling around. Don't hesitate to call Google support for help, they will make sure you get up and running no matter how long it takes. I ended up needing to call them to get the other pods to work. Below are some tips and tricks to make set up smooth: *Make sure to set up pods all in one room first. It does not matter which pod you choose to connect to the internet (main unit). - Make sure you set up one pod at a time. - Download Google wifi app first on phone or tablet. - Open up app to begin set up, when app prompts to search for devices don't hit next yet, this is when you plug in the pod you want to setup. - Plug in the Pod, the unit will turn on, initially you may see a solid Blue light. This is the first step the solid blue light means its resetting. Note: it can take up to 10 minutes to be ready for setup so be patient, I wasn't that is why I ended up calling customer service. - Once the unit has arelatively slow blue pulses that is when you hit next in the app to search for Google devices. - Follow the prompts in the app to finish setup. - Once the unit is setup it will be solid white. - Next click add to network, repeat setup steps above plug in device wait for slow blue pulses, click search for devices, choose the room you want it to be in and wait for white light. Once white light is on unplug unit and move it to the room you want it in. Once you plug it in again it will automatically connect since you already set it up in the main units room. Another thing I learned is you can have two separate Networks Your main network and your guests network. There is no way to separate Networks by radio band, meaning 5 ghz vs. 2.4 ghz so both your main and guest networks potentially can use 2.4 or 5ghz. The neat feature with Google wifi is that the devices when connected to the wifi will automatically connect to the best radio band for it no matter which network its on. This takes the guesswork out of it for you. So all those wifi enabled kitchen gadgets that require 2.4ghz should work smoothly without needing to manually choose the radio band required. I'm glad I called customer service. I am a techy person and had difficulty figuring it out on my own. I almost packed it up and sent it back. After two hours of struggling I gave in and contacted support, they were helpful and patient. If you follow my tips and tricks above you should have no problem. Remember be patient give each unit up to 10 minutes before pressing reset button and unplugging it. If you want to reset it you must press the button while unplugging it and plugging it back in, then let the button go. Hope this long winded review is helpful for someone. ... show more

  • Solid coverage. Fast network speed. A definite upgrade from our prior network.
Style: 3-Pack
I purchased a 3-puck Google Wifi system through Amazon to replace our more traditional wifi modem. The wifi in our house had become increasingly unreliable, with frequent dropped signals and interruptions in service. My wife works from home quite a bit, so reliable wifi is important. We live in a three story house (basement, main floor, upstairs) of about 3000 square feet, built around 1900. The lathe and plaster walls, and old school plumbing and wiring, make wifi and cell phone coverage a challenge. I placed one puck in the basement next to our cable router, one in the living room on the main floor, and one in the office upstairs. I attached an ethernet switch to the puck in the basement to accommodate our hard-wired devices. I did not wire the pucks themselves to one another. They are connecting to one another via wifi. The mesh system has greatly improved the performance of our wifi network. The internet speed for the computer in the office had typically run in the 25-30 Mbps range. It now runs 75-80 Mbps. We have not had the new system long enough to make a definitive assessment regarding long-term reliability. However, the performance so far has been great. Installation and setup was relatively easy, but I did have some issues. You do the setup through an app on your phone. There is no written documentation to speak of included with the units. The system would not recognize one of the pucks when I went to install it. I found a solution (resetting the puck using the reset button) after some searching on the internet. Once I identified the issue, and found instructions for resetting the puck, it installed without issue. The whole process took 60-90 minutes. If I had not needed to diagnose and reset the puck, the process would have been very easy, and would have taken no more than 20 minutes. All in all I am very pleased with this product, including the installation and setup process. You can get wifi modem's for a lot less. Given my experience to date, I believe this system is worth the extra money. I hope it proves to be reliable in the long run. ... show more
