  • Amazing little device. Easier than I expected!
This little repeater/wireless router is amazing. For size and cost there must be some limitations but I can’t see what they are. I bought this so we could use one wifi account for our two devices, such as on a cruise ship. It sets up super easy and throws a strong signal throughout our house and seems to be very stable. The device can be either wire connected to a modem or it can pick up a wifi signal and boost/relay it. Setup is via the browser on your mobile device where you select the desired network, then plug in the password. Next you set a password for this router network and log into it with the wifi settings on your phone, etc. It takes longer to type this short review than to set it up. I am in love with this little guy for how useful it is to boost signal coverage in my house and to allow me to use all of my devices on one account. Makes life simple!! ... show more

  • Great Solution for Creating a Private Wi-Fi Network
Setting up the router was easy. I started at home by creating a new Wi-Fi network on the router and connecting my devices to that network. When I got to the hotel, I simply plugged the router into an outlet in the room and connected it to the hotel's Wi-Fi network. This allowed me to use my devices and control who had access to the network, so I could keep my devices private. Specifically, this setup allowed me to use a pet camera and view the feed from the hotel. I was able to check on my dog and make sure he was okay. He slept in the hotel room while we went out, and I felt like a worried parent checking in every 30 minutes or so. I was just happy to know that he just slept the whole time. ... show more

  • A rather useful little box.
Got this kind of on a whim. I was curious to see just what it was capable of - well, here goes... Repeater -- sign into the unit, then sign it into you home's wifi, and use it as another wifi point. Wireless access point - plug in the cable, sign into the unit, and use it as a wifi point. Tethered access point - plug it into your phone, sign into the unit, and use it as a wifi point. I don't know if it would function as wireless network adapter, though the Q/A implies that it will. Speed on the repeater and wireless access point was @60Mbps, while tethered was @30Mbps (single user). When being accessed it would draw 500mAh from your supply, so keep that in mind if you're using a power bank for remote use. ... show more

  • works OK
I had some issues with connectiong to my Note-8 phone, but after some OS tweaking finally got it to owkr. It gets a big hot, and I would appreciate some vent holes in a box as well as small rubber legs. Other than that web App is pretty nice. The enclosed patch cable is TRASH. I would prefer a 5V charger instead. Would I recommend it ? YES. Tech support is super resonsive and nice, which is good. ... show more

  • Bereft with Problems. Thought it was me until I bought another Gl.inet router and problems gone!
I bought this router to create a private network, access USB storage with my phone, extend wifi networks while traveling, connect to my Raspberry Pi, get more control over my network, force DNS privacy for all clients, etc. In a sense, it worked for all of these features and more. However plenty of times it did NOT work! I spent nearly a year trying to diagnose the issues when I traveled. I would do lots of testing delving deep into changing country codes on the router, toggling back and forth between encrypted DNS and not... but I constantly had intermittent problems bridging WIFI and also connecting my devices. Sometimes, I could not connect to a WiFI AP with this device. There would be no expiation and I'd try over and over and it would intermittently connect. Similarly, I'd try and connect my own devices to this router, and each device had a different problem. I spent a lot of time doing the diagnostics. When I tried to connect to the Shadow with my Raspberry Pi, the logs said I had the wrong password (nope, not true). When I tried to connect my Orbits B-hive, there was nothing at all... but B-hive could connect to the guest network... When I tried to connect my Govee device, it could only connect with the Cloudflare DNS override turned off. When I tried to connect my Emporia Energy device, it only intermittently remained connected. None of these problems occurred with my ATT router. After lots and lots of time wasted trying to go down so many different rabbit holes, I just bought another Gl.iNet router (the Beryl AX). I plugged it in, set it up... and everything worked instantly. I'm pretty confident that either I got a defective router... or this is a piece of junk. I have written to Gl.iNet in the hope that they will provide a refund or... maybe a replacement (though I don't have a lot of confidence for this device). I've only had the Beryl AX for a few hours, but I can already tell that it's amazing - finally no more hair pulling! I'll post an update if Gl.iNet provides a refund or does something to make good on this situation. ******* Update September 2023: I added a star to my review. This is because Gl.iNet has been releasing some beta software. As a router, this device is working better now with the new software. There are still some glitches which require reboot, but overall it is more stable and connects to more APs than it used to. I would increase the star rating more, but as of now, the 4.x software removes the ability to use the USB port to mount an external device. This seems to be because the 4.x beta software takes up more space and there isn’t enough storage on the router to install the packages needed for the external storage code. I hope they can make this router work with its original features AND the 4.x software. Then, this would be a 4 or 5 star device! There are 4 models of this device; two with external antenna and two without. Within those, there are two devices with extra internal storage. In retrospect, I wish I had purchased the one with extra storage (the non M16 versions). Consider that when looking at these routers. They are improving the device, so maybe it will be good by the time you by one. ... show more

  • Incredible Value and Functionality
This router is outstanding! Completely customizable, works out of the box! Was able to connect my hotspot to it without any fuss. I am definitely a big fan of GL iNET products(buyer beware, the open source is difficult to compile)!

  • Ok little access point
Small and portable, makes good access point. I use it for utility to do various tasks, primarily as a remote access point for a small embedded server to update scripts/fiddle about with home-rolled web pages, redirects etc. Worked ok out of the box but the Lan/wifi address mask is restricted to 192.168.7 with the Gl software. Loaded with openWRT and and pretty pleased. Throughput performance, both with original Gl load or openWRT isn't the most consistent (sometimes 50Mbps other times 100/varies on clear channel with full signal) but for how i use it it's fine. I have streamed video at 1920 over it no problems, but don't expect it to be a speed demon for multiple users. ... show more

  • Needed a quick & dirty AP bridge
I needed to bridge a device with only ethernet cable to wifi. Worked very well, the underlying OS is Openwrt, which you get into by clicking "advanced".
