  • Great board after tinkering with BIOS settings properly.
Style: Z790 AORUS ELITE AX
EDIT: After some testing with new parts and tinkering with settings, I've figured that the main issue stemmed from the RAM, not the motherboard. I've never used DDR5 before so maybe it's something to do with that, but I've found it impossible to use at full speed and have it be stable. Never ever use XMP. I've learned my lesson there. Also fixed my issue with boot up times/lighting not starting properly by messing with ErP and Fast Boot settings in the BIOS. Glad I get to use this board, it's got wonderful I/O and it's simple enough for what I need. ORIGINAL: Just built my new PC and this motherboard has given me the most issues out of any parts by far. To start off with the bad, it has some power issues, fan lights will often not turn on or off alongside the PC, it takes a while to start up most of the time, and I can not use my RAM to its fullest speed. Using the motherboard's built in XMP with 4x16GB DDR5-6400 MHz RAM causes only crashes when using the PC. (memtest shows 0 errors with the RAM itself.) Games will crash quickly and sometimes the entire system just blue-screens or freezes, and every time it's related to the XMP, and I know this because going to a lower XMP profile, it works fine. Still a few crashes but it's never anywhere near as bad as using it at full speed. This motherboard also just has some build quality issues. USB-3 plugin came off with the connector, making the pins exposed. Thankfully it still works, but that's definitely not reassuring when it comes off that easily. As for the good, this motherboard has a lot of I-O. 4 USB 2.0 ports on the back for your keyboard, mouse, etc. is always nice. Lots of USB 3.0 ports and also tons of slots on the motherboard itself. The NVME storage is very nice and has a good built-in heatsink for them. The motherboard itself also looks super clean, and is incredibly simple to install. This motherboard definitely has a lot of potential, it's possible I got a faulty board, and if I get more problems I'll definitely end up getting a new one from a different brand. But, if you wanna take a chance, then this one could definitely work. For now, I think there's a lot of issues that need ironing out and if you plan on getting high-end parts, you may want to look for something with more assured quality. ... show more

  • Used Option is A Steal!
Style: Z790 AORUS ELITE AX
Purchased the used Z790 for $115. For half off, this is an unbeatable deal! Some h610 boards are more expensive. Came in great condition, no cosmetic or performance issues. Booted right up on first try. No RAM timing issues. I’m using 2 X 16GB DDR5 5600 MHz RAM modules with an i3-13100f. I underclocked the RAM to 4800 MHz and no issues at all. UEFI is simple and easy to navigate, Gigabyte Center software is functional and easy to use as well. Great product, highly recommend going for the used option if you are somewhat experienced in PC builds! Tip: ALWAYS check for bent CPU pins before installing to avoid destroying a perfectly good CPU. ... show more

  • Amazing motherboard for beginner builder
Style: Z790 EAGLE AX
Hello, Im Michael, and Im reviewing the Gigabyte Z790 Eagle AX. First and foremost. Im a brand loyalist and have never built a computer until recently. Im going to be using MOBO which stands for Motherboard from here on out. I was accustomed to using an Alienware 15R2 for almost 10 years. Thats a laptop. Which I worked and worked on squeezing as much as I could out of it. It is an amazing laptop from 2015 thats amazing for mobile use, but for 2024 gaming use, it just didnt cut it anymore. I upgraded my cousins old EVGA 2080 GPU to a GIGABYTE 4070 ti super first. Because I thought his old EVGA board and PSU was being GPU throttled. Instead of upgrading the board, cpu, thermal paste, cpu cooler, psu, and the case. I put in the GIGABYTE 4070 TI Super before anything else to make sure. The GIGABYTE gpu performed excellent in his build. But, unfortunately his CPU couldnt keep up with the demand. Causing alot of stuttering issues. The GIGABYTE 4070 TI Super performed beautifully. Dont get me wrong. This was a CPU issue. Not a Gigabyte issue. So. I did my own research. I did my own data testing and analysis to find the best mid range board. I was shocked that EVGA doesnt make GPU's or MOBO's anymore. Such good quality stuff. Why did they stop? I dont have that answer for you. If EVGA made motherboards and GPU's I wouldnt be wasting my time with this review. Anyways. The GIGABYTE Z790 Eagle AX is exactly what I bought. DDR5. LGA 1700 Socket, NVME Gen4, Built in Wifi 6, and bluetooth. I chose GIGABYTE because the GIGABYTE EAGLE WINDFORCE 4070 TI Super "whatever," performed with no issues whatsover. This board. Is not perfect when it comes to OC/BIOS configs. I have tested and pushed the limits. And it has forgiven me everytime. That is something new. The evga MBO when I have OC or overclocked the memory or the cpu it has completely died. And I had to reset everything. This BIOS is completely forgiving for new PC builders. My current build is the 4000D Corsair Case with 2 included fans. Corsair 650x 650w PSU, GIGABYTE Z790 Eagle AX MOBO, Intel i7 14700K CPU, Thermalright Peerless Assassin CPU cooler, Crucial 64gb DDR5 RAM, Crucial P3 1TB NVME, Samsung 950 500GB NVME, Samsung 850 500GB SSD, and a Seagate 2TB HDD. This board supports everything. I called my PC "Frankenstein" because its built with parts from other computers. Thats what someone who knows what their doing does. NVME. SATA SSD, SATA HDD. It still supports older hardware. And it does it without flaw with an undervolt and an OC on the CPU. One thing I will tell you. DO NOT TRUST THE GIGABYTE SOFTWARE. IT WILL NOT UPDATE YOUR BIOS. IT WILL NOT INSTALL EVERYTHING FROM THE GIGABYTE SITE THAT YOU NEED. With that being said. I built my cousin a brand new computer. Same Corsair 4000D case, Same GIGABYTE Z790 Eagle Ax MOBO, Same Intel 14700K CPU, Same Thermalright Peerless Assassin, Same Crucial 64GB DDR5. Upgraded to a Corsair RM1000x, in case he wants to install an 6090, Upgraded the NVME to a Crucial T500. And of course. Put his old 4070 TI Super in his new computer. The results speak for themselves. He said "He didnt know that computers were this good." ... show more

  • Why buy a product from a company who have a product that doesn't last.
Style: Z790 AORUS ELITE AX
Hundreds of dollars for a product that died after a few months. Customer support/warranty looks like they will charge you for a product that has no life span. I've bought 4 motherboards over the past 20 years from gigabyte all but 1 died. I believe I am done with this company. I have never had an Asus motherboard die on me in comparison. It is just not worth the time and money. Any way I built my machine during Christmas and it ran good for a few months, then out of the blue my mouse and keyboard and gameplay immediately got choppy, and after a reboot attempt my computer would do nothing, only the fans and lighting would turn on. After some shotgun troubleshooting i eventually tried a new motherboard from Asus with all the same innards as before and now everything is running like a dream. I do not see the point in sending it back now, if I have to pay for repairs and shipping. It's a shame i have to live with the money hit. ... show more
