Extremely happy and satisfied with this purchase. There is a lot of dogma in my new shot in purchasing Smart watches so this is for the ones who are interested in reading reviews. My husband is currently prepping for an intense military school and wanted something simple that didn’t receive a ton of notifications And would pair with some Bluetooth headphones and allow him to track necessary things. First and foremost it seems that the newer generations of these Garmin watches only boast longer battery, life, or solar, charging as a way to get another hundred to $150 out of you. This generic version still pairs with the Garmin IQ app, which allows you to download multiple different watch faces GPS maps from other content creators, and even work alongside the Garmin golf app where you can track your swing speed amongst other things. Suffice it to say, my husband can train with focused energy and not have his watch, blowing up with notifications, use a simple software that Garmin provides to be able to navigate all of the necessary functions of his watch with these, and Also , make time for hobbies and get better at them. Would definitely recommend this product to those who are serious about a smart watch without all of the other fluff, pork and bells and whistles. ... show more

I got the the Venu SQ over a month ago and it has done exactly what I wanted it to do. There are so many Garmin watches out there and it took me a while to land on this, but I’m glad I did. 1. Watch is comfortable and compact, without being too small or dainty looking, and surprisingly light weight. 2. Counts all the bio-info a causal user would want (steps, heart rate, stress level, more). 3. BIG ONE for me, it works as a portable music/podcast player for Spotify. I can run without a phone and have music on the go, with Bluetooth headphones and it sounds great. This has only glitched once on me while on the go. The setup is the most difficult part (set aside 30 minutes to get it up and running) and getting used to the controls can take some trial and error but ultimately, I got music on my watch! Love being phone free on walks/runs/rides. 4. Works for golfing (and many other sports), gives me yardage to holes, and seems fairly accurate. Just make sure to download the app to your phone to sync/download courses before you play. 5. Battery life is strong, and charges fast. CONS 1. Step counter differs about 10% from my phone. Which is correct? Split the difference? 2. Controls can be frustrating to get used to but ultimately get the job done. 3. Weather app frequently doesn’t work. ... show more

I'm beyond disappointed in this watch. I did my research before buying, and it seemed like it'd be great to allow me to have music and a fitness tracker without having my phone. The showstopping issue is you can't play the music with typical bluetooth earbuds -- ie, the < $20 ones (over-ear, etc). The sound is deafening at the lowest setting, where it's one 'click' between it and off. This is a failure of the watch: the "steps" for changing the volume seem to be set at 10%, and there's a stupid cutesy UI that doesn't even show the level, but an uninformative bar. I've spent days trying to address this. I've tested with four pairs of headphones, all of which work on my phone, friends' phones, laptops, and even tablets. It's so inane that I'm struggling between just returning the watch, or actually suing Garmin for permanent ear damage. No, really, I think it'd be open and shut, since <pick any pair of standard earbuds, pair with watch, play, watch someone wince in pain, pair with any _other_ device, see normal playing> I'm just livid about this. The insult to injury was contacting Garmin's support email, and after days, getting an email unrelated to this about reception of headphones, with canned information from Garmin's site. The tl;dr here is if you were stupid like me thinking you're buying a high quality product because it's Garmin, think again. Some other irritations with this are the number of taps you need for an activity, even when you've got one 'favorited' --- and then you have to confirm you want to save it, every time (vs, you know, having something to delete ones you didn't, since that's outlier). The touchscreen can 'lag', not acknowledging your taps, and there's no way to change the sensitivity of it. The wi-fi is only 2.4ghz, so if you've got a newer router that only does 5ghz, you have to dig something out, if you want to try syncing over the internet. Otherwise, you have to deal with the cruddy express app, or the cruddy mobile app. Unlike some other watches (I actually find it hard to believe Garmin manages to be worst than Fitbit in just about every way...) there isn't an integrated calorie tracker on their portal: instead there are tons of crap for "connecting". Maybe this is a great watch for the narcissistic generation that wants everyone to know where they are and what they've done. I'd rather have something useful. Also, really, golf? You can't get rid of the useless crap on the Connect site. The stock watch band it comes with feels cheap. The proprietary cord is irritating: having to have another specialized one for no good reason is stupid. About the only thing I like about this is that you can actually turn it off. ... show more

I got this as an upgrade from my Forerunner 35 and I am super happy with it! I love that I can leave my phone at home when I'm running and still listen to my music. The battery life is excellent too. I generally go 5 days between charges.
