Just started learning to oil paint and this stuff is great. It's not runny like liquin or linseed oil, it mixes easily into the paint and thins things down enough to make the paint very easy to move around the canvas. No harsh odors. Dry time is decreased a decent amount as well. Very good product.

I used this with oil pastels to get a paint-like consistency for an underpainting and it was perfect. Just a little dab of it mixed so well into the pastels for seamless blending of a very thin coat.     • Great Eco Friendly and Fast Drying
I have been using Liquin for years and love how fast it dries, however the smell worries me. I decided to look for a more eco-friendly substitute. Gamblin Solvent-Free Gel Medium Oil is a painting medium that is made from safflower oil and alkyd resin. It is non-toxic and contains no Gamsol or petroleum distillates, which fit my first criteria of being more eco-friendly. There is hardly any smell to the product. My second criterion was that it had to dry fast. I found that thin layers of solvent-free mediums can dry to the touch in about 36–48 hours and thick layers can be dry to the touch within a week or two. I love it that is solvent free, much healthier than Liquin, Gamsol and odorless turp. Won’t destroy brushes quickly because it doesn’t have solvent in it. Stays wet on the palette for several days but dries quickly once mixed with paint and applied to canvas or panel. Super easy to use. I also like how paints mixed with this medium stay nice and glossy once they dry on canvas or any substrate suitable for oil painting. Almost no varnish is needed, it looks that good. ... show more

    • Snot what you think!
This is the only solvent for oil colors that is TSA safe and legal. The consistency is similar to paint and it looks if you forgive the term like "snot". I like to bring paints with me when I travel so this is a no brainer. But I keep some on my palette for mixing colors as a substitute for medium. I like it particularly for palette knife painting to increase volume of my mixtures while keeping the paint nice and thick. It adds no color and stays put as well as most paints. It is a little glossy when it dries so that's a matter of taste but I like it. I find myself using it more and more over time so that's a good sign.
