Description

HOW DOES IT WORK: The bee smoker is an essential tool for all beekeepers to use when inspecting beehives. A small fire is built in the bottom of the fire chamber and the rest of the chamber is filled with material. As the fire burns, cool smoke is released out the top of the smoker with each pump of the bellows. HEAVY-DUTY AIRFLOW PLATE: The airflow plate in the chamber can get hot when building a fire causing the plate to burn through. Our plate is heavy duty and will not burn through over time. UPDATED BELLOW AND AIRFLOW TUBE: We have added a small tube that helps direct air from the green, replaceable bellow to the bottom of the chamber. This ensures clean air is being supplied directly to the fire. MEASUREMENTS: Our smoker is 11-inches tall and the chamber without the heat shield measures 4-inches across. HEAT GUARD AND STORAGE HOOK: Our heat guard fully surrounds the smoker, making it safer for you and your bees by preventing burns and accidental fires. I’ve always bought cheap smokers in the past and they work okay for a season or two and then I’d replace them. This year I decided to spend a little extra money on this one because I was getting frustrated by the difficulty in getting a lit smoker keep smoking throughout the session. This smoker fixes that problem and is worth the extra money. I think the secret is the improved airflow tube and the thick extra high plate inside the smoker. I haven’t seen these in other designs but it helps to keep the smoker lit. The heavier gauge steel seems to be holding up better as well. Recommended. ... show more

Works great using dry grass/hay and scrap paper to get it started. I think how long these stay lit largely depends on the choice of fuel and not the smoker itself. Thus far have used it 30 minutes or so at a time without having to refill it if we use a reasonable quality fuel. Usually we have to dump it out when done because it's still smoking. No issues with this model using nitrile gloves. The hook on the front fits onto the edge of a Langstroth hive easily if needed for a resting place. Zero issues with the bottom being too hot on normal surfaces or in the grass. Zero issues igniting anything and no loose embers. ... show more

I bought this to replace another smoker - this one works great! I have compared the two side by side and the Foxhoud Bee Company smoker easily out performs the more costly smoker that I had bought a few years ago. This smoker seems to be able to make smoke longer and with less issues than other smokers I have used. Not sure why and, honestly, I don't care - it works great and I will order more. When you have an apiary that is measured in acres, not colonies, it is important to have a smoker that lasts for an hour at a time, not a few minutes - this smoker works great! ... show more
