If I were being honest with myself, I should've known that there's no double sided tape that would work on an exterior surface unless it's new construction or a siding crew very recently installed new sheet metal capping. The instructions recommended a supplied screw about every 14". Also nowhere in the instructions or in these reviews said anything about how far to measure out from the door, so I had to experiment a little by peeling it back off and redoing it, which doesn't help the tapes chances. I ultimately decided that a 45° bend at the middle hinge of this trim would have the perfect amount of flex that would both seal against the door nice and tight but not be so tight that it may create too much friction. I achieved that by having the outer most edge of this trim 1-3/4" from the door itself while closed. This created another problem with the attached tape provided because that seal does have some pressure acting against that tape. So if u really want to give that tape the best chance of sealing then you'll wanna leave the door open when installing it and for a while afterwards. A very hot day and/or a heat gun would really help. I have an air powered staple gun and as u can see I went hog wild with the staples. Why not? They're cheap and believe you me, you're not going to get them attached better than that. They're only $15 or so on here. I gotta really nice Arrow that came with staples for around $30. They make electric ones for about the same price if you don't have a compressor. Be careful if u grab one tho because the staple guns look identical to brad nailers, some even do both. The best duct tape brand that will ever exist also makes it in white. Now this stuff is durable and tuff. If you've never used it then trust me on this, it's built for all 4 seasons and then some. I shared it in a pic along with the finished results. The tape comes in 1.88" or 2.88". I used the 1.88" and tore it exactly in half. What u see in the pic is what was left of the 10' roll. I left 4 stars but really everyone should have a staple gun and the tape wasn't that much of an extra expense and imo my results couldn't have been better. I also think it turned out looking cleaner than if I had used a screw every foot or so. I didn't use a single screw. Another tip is that I did the top 1st and did not mitre the corners because I wanted the top piece to push out on the side pieces when choosing. I think this all but guarantees the door won't catch an edge. Also if u do use a stapler, I tried to alternate the orientation of them because the broad side is the strongest part. Again arrived Amazon fast. Was very EZ install. Recommendation 1 - If possible save your old seal and use it to measure this new one. The most we tried was 1/2-ish on any of the 3 pieces. The adhesive may stick to something but it sure didn't stick to our paint. Best results try to put the screws in as straight as possible. DO NOT TUG on the seal. Slightly snug it. The down side the seal sags a bit on the overhead...just gravity. Product improvement might be a more sturdy with less pliability. LOL! My wife's fix? While I was cleaning up she had a tube of quick dry caulking. Applied from the inside of garage out so less stretching and less wipe-down/clean up. Worked a treat! The PIA was coating all the screws with matching paint! That said this good enough for our Arizona home. Hope it handles the 'Dry Heat' :) ... show more
