Like most everyone, I first bought a competitor's product for under $ 10 which I wasted a couple of days to make work. That product was barely functional and robbed my Video 8 XR tapes of their quality. Then ordered this which worked as advertised right out of the box with their proprietary software.     • BUY THIS! Don't waste your money on other cheap knock off video capture
I tried 3 cheaper 'no name' capture units and every single one failed. This Delgato was twice as much, but I was capturing video 15 min after I opened the package. Easy to use and works great. Don't waste your money on a cheap knock off.

    • Device isn’t compatible with new processor. No fix as of this date or planned fix date.
Tech support was very good in that they spent 53 minutes with me on the phone trying to find work around. They are aware that it’s driver isn’t compatible with 12th Gen Intel processor when running Window 11. Tech was to send me a beta driver link via email but never did.

    • Does not work on M1 MacBooks
This does not seem to work on M1 MacBooks with USB C/thunderbolt ports. I've tried various adapters and hubs and none will work. I can get it to work on an older MacBook Pro with USB-C ports going through a hub. Seems to be a few people complaining about this online.

I used this with my Sony Digital 8 (DC- TRV350). It worked perfectly! I have it connected on a Dell laptop with a Windows 10, 64 bit operating system. I downloaded the video capture software right from Elgato's website. I've had no technical problems at all using the software or connecting my camcorder from the capture device to my laptop. I chose to connect using an s-video cable option, with a composite red and white (for stereo sound) connected to the composite part. The sound is great and the picture quality is also really good- as can be expected from tapes recorded on from the 90's. Adjustments can be made to enhance the video. Picture quality is good considering I was importing 37 year old VHS Tapes that were recoded on the worst quality mode. I was able to send to iMovie on my iMac Desktop and able to make short video clips and emailed them to the participants. I originally purchased a very cheap device.
