Description

The 1460 is the original Dr. Martens Boot. Made with instantly recognizable features: 8 eyes, classic Dr. Martens leather, grooved sides, a heel-loop, yellow stitching and a comfortable, air-cushioned sole. Built to last, this unisex boot is forged using one of the finest methods of construction: utilizing a Goodyear welt and heat-sealing it to the sole. The 1460 is made with highly durable leather and sits on an AirWair sole, which is oil and fat resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance. Use Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam to protect the leather and keep your boots clean, soft and supple. Understated leather tames the combat-reminiscent style of Dr. Martens's 1469 Originals 8-Eye boot. Looped pull at the back and signature stitching at the manmade sole. P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history. See more

Size: 8 Women/7 Men Color: Black Smooth
I LOVE mine. I wear an 8 but intern have to wear up to 9s be abuse my feet are so wide. I did my research to find a boot that would be good for my feet and found that these run “wide,” I also read how stiff they are but once u break them it they are great. They fit my wide feet perfect and yes they were stiff. When I put them on the we’re so stiff at the base of the tongue where the laces end. It felt like I had them in with the tongue stuck at inside the shoe. I stuck a ball in each shoe when I wasn’t wasn’t manually using my hands to punch and roll the stuff part. It only took me two days with little effort to break them in. ... show more

Simply one of the best-fitting pairs of boots I've owned in a while. Worth every red cent. ***Invest in a little mink oil to loosen up the upper.

  • They seem to be doing the job
Size: 10 Women/9 Men Color: Black Smooth
I bought these boots because I wanted something good for the upstate New York winters, but not clunky winter boots that would be awkward to walk around in when in doors. They seem to serve their purpose. The are comfortable to wear all day, and when I need to walk through snow and slush they keep my feet dry (I didn't spray them or anything, they just are water tight. I have not submerged my foot completely). They look pretty nice, the toe doesn't have a big square toe that makes many shoes look ugly (in my opinion), and they came with an extra set of yellow laces. The two cons for this pair of boots is that the leather felt stiff (kind of like raw hide when I first got them. I had expected that since I have read other reviews, but the other pair of Doc Martins I owned came with very much nice feeling leather. I would wear thich socks the first week. The part of the shoe that comes up around the ankle will rub your ankle and hurt a little, it goes away, but until they break in a bit you will want to protect yourself from blisters. Over all, I would recommend these boots for anyone with similar needs to my own, they look and feel nice, and they seem to be hearty. ... show more

  • I bought Solavair also and they are just like the Docs that I wore back in the 80s
I have been wearing Docs since 1983 and these are okay. But they lack the quality and thickness of the made in England real Docs. The leather is thinner and they just do not have that feel of the old Docs. But they are cheaper and for the money I guess they are okay. I bought Solavair also and they are just like the Docs that I wore back in the 80s. Awesome boots! Solovair boots are hand made in England and have 11 eye boots, like the 1490 that Doc Martens used to make and discontinued made in England. It is a shame that Doc Martens are outsourced to Asian countries that do not use the best leather and are not the Cobblers that the English are. Maybe one day Doc Martens will understand that Craftmanship means more than profits? But that seems unlikely and after the fade of idiots like Miley Sirus and other cretins making the boot famous, Hope Doc Martens remember the pride and love that the people had for them and does the right thing! ... show more

  • Call a Nurse. What Happened to Dr Martens?
Size: 11 Women/10 Men Color: White Smooth
I bought these for a costume party next month and they are the perfect shoe for the the look I’m going for however I’ll probably list them on eBay afterward and sell them. I recall Dr. Martens being of better quality. This pair of shoes feels very stiff and cheap, like some China knockoff. The owner of the store that these shoes came from sent me an email saying that “he saw that I received the shoes and that he’s a retired veteran supporting his family with this online store and would I post a 5 star review.” This is the second time I’ve received a request like this from two different vendors. The emails are almost identical. Unless it’s a meal, there is no way I can tell the quality of the product by just removing it from the box. The only reason I can with these boots is because when I lived in Seattle 1991-98 where the shoe to wear was Dr Martens I went through two pairs and the leather was of higher quality. We have gotten to a strange place in America where people rely on reviews where people aren’t even actually using the product but rather looking and reviewing. Most products need at least a month of use before a consumer can acurratley rate a product. So that’s my 2 cents ... show more
