  • Steady and Secure
There are so many phone holders on the market and wanted to ensure I got one to add to the Ronin rig that would hold the phone and still allow the stability as we are on the move. This holder does what it says. Easy to attach and does what it says. In this case you get what you pay for, good quality product that does what it says. ... show more

  • Will not hold a Galaxy 7s
I guess if you don't have a tiny phone this will not work. This would not work with the Galaxy 7s it keeps falling out. I could not even use it with a power bank. I did come up with a solution which was to get a small elastic band that would hold the phone. You will need to jerry rig this if you want any use out of it. ... show more

  • Junk. May fall apart with little to no use. Servicable only with modification.
This phone mount is okay up until it falls apart. It holds the phone steady and rotates nicely. As some others pointed out, it will not work with a case on the phone unless the case is very thin. I bought the DJI Ronin-SC Pro Combo in August of 2020 from Best Buy. I used the phone holder for a few minutes while familiarizing myself with the gimbal. I filmed a wedding with the gimbal in September and used the phone holder sparingly during that shoot. My next use was in June of 2021 to film a lake resort. During that shoot, the phone clamp became very loose on the arm. I was lucky the clamp part did not totally fall off and result in damage to my new phone. At no point did I abuse or drop the phone holder. I called DJI to inquire about a replacement. I was told the warranty on that part had expired after 6 months and my only choice was to send it in for repair. I asked if the design of the phone mount had been updated since release and was told it had not been. Before sending it for repair or buying a new one I decided to try and fix it myself. Searching the internet I found many others who had the same issue with the phone mount. Some of them had never even taken the mount out of the Ronin case and it was already broken in the exact same spot. I found a very helpful video on on the RustyRoj YouTube channel. There is a hat shaped "washer" component inside the clamp that compresses a spring and is held in place by a small screw. The feature of this component that compresses the spring is about as thin as a steel washer but is made from plastic. That feature had broken off of the recessed feature as was the same in many other reports of malfunction. In a slight variation to RustyRoj's fix, I used a very small washer to capture the screw head and a larger washer to compress the spring. I expect this to last for quite a while now. If you are buying this separately from the gimbal, I would recommend not to use it before taking it apart and replacing the incredibly under-designed component. Failure to do so may result in a cracked phone screen. My day job is as a mechanical engineer who works in product design. Shame on DJI for this poor design and for not updating it despite what must be a very high failure rate. ... show more
