Top Amazon Reviews

  • Affordable upgrade for intermediate-level players
This review is for folks who, like me, play beyond the beginner level and find themselves somewhere in the intermediate level yet want to use a decent paddle. You'll have to excuse me as I lack the technical knowledge and jargon of the table tennis world. That being said, the handle smells like fish like everyone else has mentioned. Thankfully, the smell has dissipated significantly. The smell of the handle shouldn't stop you from buying this paddle. It really is a great value. From what I read on other reviews the rubber used (G888 and Hurricane III) is very good quality. I am able to generate tons of spin and carry a good amount of speed through my shots, yet still maintain control. The amount of spin I put on serves is just ridiculous. My friend who was on the other side of the table mentioned how much ball movement there was on my serve. I do find that I keep the ball in play more with the black side (G888) than the red side (H3). I guess I'm still figuring out how to approach the ball with the red side. It is head heavy, but not so much that I couldn't make quick adjustments. The extra weight really puts some *oomph* behind my shots. I would recommend getting the Killerspin Rubber Protector if you get this paddle, it's only $1.99. The rubber on this paddle is really tacky and you'll want something to keep the rubber free from dirt, dust, and debris when not playing. For the price versus performance it's a no brainer. Just buy it...and be sure to wash your hand afterwards because it will smell like fish. :) UPDATE: 5/27/12 After using the x4002 for almost 6 months, playing once a week (2 hr sessions) I am still very satisfied with my purchase. My initial review mentioned using the G888 (black)rubber on forehand. It didn't take me long after the purchase to use H3 as the forehand and G888 on backhand. The spin and speed with this paddle is nothing short of amazing. I regularly play with 5 other guys. Three of the guys use paddles ranging in price from $60 to over $150!!! They're always surprised that I only paid $25 for mine. After figuring out how my paddle plays I can hang with these more experienced players and many times have these guys scrambling to keep up with my shots. The one negative I have is that after over 2 hours of straight play the weight of the paddle becomes more apparent, but for $25 I'm not going to complain too much. ... show more

  • Great DHS Paddle
This 4-star Double Happiness table tennis racquet/paddle performs very well for an intermediate/advanced player or for a beginner who is looking to improve greatly. The rubber is super tacky and I think it's really what makes the paddle so great with spin, control, and smashing. The weight is a bit on the heavier side. The handle is black with a red and yellow design (not correctly pictured on the site). It comes with one orange DHS 3-star ball (these balls play great and have a solid feel so I always use them). This paddle also does not smell like fish at all. It has a slight chemical smell on the rubber though but it is quite minor. This paddle was delivered to me around 2 weeks earlier than the estimated delivery time so the extra fast shipping/delivery was great. Unfortunately, after I received the product, the price lowered a couple dollars. When I opened the package, the paddle box was beaten up and in poor condition, most likely because the box was only packaged in a bubble wrap-lined envelope, rather than a cardboard box. However, the paddle and the ball were in new condition. For this highly discounted price, I definitely recommend this paddle to play for recreational or competitive play. It's a steal for an advanced paddle with a prominent brand. ... show more

  • Bad company to buy from (ANG Direct)
Purchased this and found it that it might take 6 weeks to be delivered. The company asked why I was canceling and when I told them because of shipping delay they said that the paddle would be here with 10 business day, so two weeks. The paddles arrived over 4 weeks later and they had issues. The first paddle had a de-lamination that ran one half the length of the paddle that was covered by the side decorative tape. I could literally separate the plywood blade. The second paddle's handle was barley glued on and when any flexion is applied to the paddle the handles visibly lift from the blade. Very disappointed with the whole experience. I didn't even bother contacting the company for a return because I didn't want to deal with months of shipping again. I repaired the paddles myself and they are functional now but you never should have to repair something directly from the box. ... show more

  • excellent product
I love this paddle. I have been playing with Walmart's $6 Sportcraft black/red rubber and it has been satisfactory. This dhs 4002 is an excellent next step. I got it due to good reviews and the fact that it is around $21. It plays like $100. The paddle is a bit top heavy and weights a bit more than the sportcraft. I think this is due to the better rubber. It has an orange foam and then the red and black which gives it a bit more spongy feel. It took me a couple of minutes to adjust. However, after the adjustment, I did really well after around 3 hours of continuous play with roughly 10 players of different skills and I have not lost a single set against all 10 players. I love the rubber (black and red). My forehand with the black was great but I noticed a few miss hits so I guess that I am still learning to adjust to the black rubber. On the backhand with the red rubber, I was able to return forehand cross smash that I never was able to before and I think this is due to the extra cushion over the black rubber and added orange foam over the sportcraft. I also noticed a slight smell that others described as fishy. I found that it is not the fishy smell but the soft plastic out gassing typical of many plastic things. The odor is going away slowly and I think it will be gone in a week or so just like most plastic toys. I also noticed that the rubber attract dust and oil like a magnet. I ended up rubbing some alcohol hand sanitizer which i hope won't damage the rubber. I also tried wiping off later with warm water paper towels which made the paddle brand new again. Anyway, I think I made a good choice over other more expensive paddles (stiga, joola, and whatever else north of $100). Hope this help ya decide and thanks for all the other reviews out there. Have fun playing... ... show more
