Sounds absolutely great with bass heavy "thumpy" music like EDM (Tiesto, etc...), Rap (Only the Family - Same Hood), Jamaican Bass heavy music (Jahvillani). The lows are there, are deep, and hit you in the back nicely, both heard and felt. However, with metal, metalcore, rock, etc...., (Staind, Stati
c-X, Korn, We Came As Romans, etc...) The bass is lacking. I have to double the sub level in order to get any kind of punch in this type of music, and it's not a very musical punch. Very thumpy and sloppy. I previously had an Infinity (800W) 8" subwoofer in a very nice GP Audio box. It had punch for days, and sounded great with rock, and very good with bass heavy music, but it just didn't give me enough output before unloading (over-excursion). This one, on the other hand goes deeper and has much more output with only bass heavy music, even at lower levels with the sub only moving 1/4" or so. I am concerned about the volume of the box, though. It is listed as a 'Total Volume' of 2.13 cu. ft. The box barely fit into the trunk of my 2016 Mustang. I had to remove the rear trunk trim where the latch is located, in order to make enough room to fit it in the trunk. It's a relatively large box for a single 12". The specs for the separate sub on ct sounds site suggest 1 cu. ft. for an "SQ Response Curve" and 1.75 cu. ft for a "Boomer Response Curve (SPL)". Unless I'm interpreting the specs wrong, This box is much larger than even the manufacturer suggested largest volume for an SPL box. This may be why it's so boomy with deep bass, but has no punch for rock. I would have preferred a box volume somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately I'd have to rank "sound quality" at 3 stars, as I tend to listed to a lot of rock. The design of the subwoofer with its high roll narrow surround gives it the look of a higher end sub, but with more xmax than it actually has (only 11mm). The subwoofer and box appear to be extremely high quality, with modern advanced manufacturing techniques throughout. Although I could smell the sweet smell of carpet glue for several days after opening the box. It eventually aired itself out after a few hot days in the car. Maybe it was a recently manufactured box. Time will tell whether I keep this box. I will have to come up with a compromise to improve the sound for rock. Maybe I will invest in an epicenter or other digital bass processor.
